Coping with feeling angry

Description

A group of children discuss anger. They explain that there are good and bad types of anger. The good type doesn鈥檛 hurt anyone but the bad type leads to damaging people or things. The children explain what makes them feel angry and then produce paintings to illustrate their emotions. They describe the feelings process and acknowledge that there are different levels of anger.

Classroom Ideas

Ask students to draw a picture of an angry person. These pictures could be shared with the class, and students could discuss what they depict. Are any of the angry people in these pictures hurting people or damaging things? Students could learn that it is okay to be angry, but they must learn how to express this appropriately.

Show students pictures of people expressing their anger in different ways, for example punching a pillow, talking to a friend about it, punching someone or kicking a wall. Students could sort these into appropriate ways to express your anger and inappropriate ways. The different strategies to deal with anger could then be discussed and students could choose the one that they believe could work best for them. They could then complete a piece of writing, 鈥榃hen I feel angry I will鈥︹
