SUGGESTIONS FOR SPACE TAPE AND QUESTIONS FOR ED O'BRIEN OF RADIOHEAD

Post categories:

James Stirling (6 Music) James Stirling (6 Music) | 13:02 UK time, Monday, 14 June 2010

Put another blog on the fire for me. I'll make some breakfast and coffee.

I'm out of the shed! To be honest it was nice being in there for a few days. It gave me a chance to listen to some weird music and dream my dreamy dreams. But today is the beginning of a new week and preparations must begin for next Sunday's show, which as you will have gathered will feature the musical choices and vocal interaction of none other than the tallest member of one of the greatest bands of all time: Matt from Busted. No! It's Ed O'Brien, the Michael Palin of Radiohead. Apart from being a serious threat to Dave Grohl's title as 'the nicest man in rock', Ed is also Radiohead's guitarist, percussionist, vocal harmoniser and all round vibe technician. The band are currently in their Oxford studio working on material for the follow up to 2007's In Rainbows so I'm very grateful that Ed is finding time to be my guest between sessions. We're recording the show this Friday 18th so if you have any questions you'd like me to put to Ed, please get them in as soon as possible before then.

The theme for our tape is Space. All good title ideas welcome!

  • Comment number 2.

    Dear Mr Radiohead,
    why so sad?

  • Comment number 3.

    Song suggestions:
Cosmic Love - Florence + The Machine,
    Clint Mansell's MOON OST,
Violet Stars Happy Hunting! (feat The Skunks) - Janelle Monae (From the brilliant 'Metropolis: The Chase Suite', Stars - The XX.

  • Comment number 4.

Question for Ed: What music are you listening to at the moment?

  • Comment number 5.

So are all the Podcasts now going to be UK only? You only play small snippets of the music anyway so how about a music free podcast for the chit chat fans - lets face it, no one tunes in to hear Sean Connery singing for 7 seconds - if you want that then there is always the listen again feature. Please spare a thought for your international friends.

  • Comment number 6.

This is awesome news! From considerable experience in this area... many suggestions from the Geek Pop crew:

The Grand Tour - The Sound of the Ladies
Neutron Star - Johnny & the Chemists
Neutron Stars - Dr Stu & the Neutron Stars
Laika - Intercontinental Music Lab (these guys also have a whole Space album)
    Intergalactic - Beastie Boys
    Black Hole - Aqualung
The Galaxy Song - Monty Python
    Far Out - Blur

  • Comment number 7.

    Question for Ed:

Do Radiohead go into the studio with the album fully formed in the heads or is the recording a more explorative process?

Whatever they do it's awesome, can't wait for the new album.

Keep up the good work. XoX

  • Comment number 8.

Ed O'Brien! Hooray! It was a bit obvious it was going to be someone from Radiohead, or at least I hoped it would be. I thought it would more likely be Colin, though. Here are some unusable questions:

What does it feel like to be the sex symbol in Radiohead?
Does it ever gripe you if Thom comes into a studio and hands you a hollowed-out tree stump to play rather than a guitar?
How do you do such a great Thom impression when you're doing backing vocals?

  • Comment number 9.

    Hello Adam,

Can you please ask Ed O'Brien "How does it feel to be so awesome"?

Thank you. Oh and a song by Man or Astro Man would probably be a good addition to your space mix tape.

    Be well,
    Maggie

  • Comment number 10.

Hopefully this will feature something by Holst, because as we all know, every piece of music related to space is by Holst.

  • Comment number 11.

    Space is the place...
Space, how low can you go...

  • Comment number 12.

I have a question, but there is no point as I cant listen anymore! I only live in Ireland, we are attached to you! The UK is only 45 mins drive away. I am sad.

  • Comment number 13.

    Lemon Jelly - Space Walk ( )

  • Comment number 14.

Hello Mr Ed and Mr Adam

firstly i'd like to say, I LOVE YOU ED AND ALL OTHER PEOPLE IN,AROUND AND NEXT TO RADIOHEAD!!!!

anyways, after seeing many of your concerts on DVD I noticed that unlike Jonny, Thom and Colin who only change guitars once or twice in a set you seem to use a wide range of guitars. I see strats, teles, gibsons and " The Plank" flying on and off stage. Basicly i want to ask which one of your guitars is you favorite or do you not get attached to your guitars in that way.

also, any news about future gigs? because if i never get to see a radiohead show i will have not acheved anything in my life...

love you ed! and tell thom, jonny, colin and phil that they are awsome too!!!!

    James MacGregor

  • Comment number 16.

    Title Suggestions:
"Take your protein pill and put your mixtape on"
    "Flashing Light in hyper tapes"
    "interplanetary quite extraordinary mixtapes"

Please can you ask Ed who the tallest member of radiohead is? Is this the same as the strongest member? Who would win in a radiofight?

  • Comment number 17.

There's a really lovely song on The Sound of the Ladies (aka Martin the Sound Man from Answer Me This! podcast) EP 'Songs about Science: Volume 1 - Space' called 'The Grand Tour'.

PS: Please please please please please please please please get BAAAD DAD on as a guest at some point!

  • Comment number 18.

    Yowser!
Ed it's no secret that you are *Tally Tall not Smally Small
What's it like being a tall person in the biggest and most highly regarded, crtically acclaimed band in the world? Do you generally love the life or does it sometimes drive you insane when all you want to do is noodle away on your...guitar! (of course this question is more about the band bit rather than the tall aspect - just wanted to inject a bit of humour!)
PS Love your work on Lucky & The Tourist - Beautiful :D

    Ideas for songs:
Hmmmmm...well you've gotta have a bit of Bowie of course...but which one...I wouldn't want to make that decision.

Star Wars Theme - Meco - Yes it works again!
Fly Me to the Moon - Nat King Cole or Sinatra eithers good
Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft - The Carpenters
Hometown Unicorn - Super Furry Animals
Hey Mister Spaceman - The Byrds
    Venus & Mars - Wings
    I'm the Urban Spaceman - Bonzo's
Something from the Orb's - Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld
Also Sprach Zarathustra - Richard Strauss - famously used in 2001 A Space Odyssey!
A Space Boy Dream - Belle & Sebastian
Ladies & Gentlemen we are floating in space - Spiritualized
Interstellar Overdrive/Dark side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
    Space Baby - The Tubes

    Yikes can't believe I forgot:
    Subterranean Homesick Alien - Radiohead!

  • Comment number 20.

    Hello!!

Firstly, Also Sprach Zarathustra from 2001: A Space Odsyssy is one of my favorite film-opening-type bit of Spacey-music ever! (and i especially lol'ed about the place when A&J did it for the podmax intro...)

Question for Ed (LOVED the Scotch Mist webcast by the way): What is your favorite bit of Space? Mine is titan. And black holes.

    Thankyoubyyeee

  • Comment number 21.

Milla Jovovich - The Alien Song (could have been on last weeks tape too!)
    Spaceman - Harry Nilsson
    Pink Moon - Nick Drake
    Starlight - ELO

  • Comment number 22.

Ooh, space! The possibilities for cheese are endless. What about Magic Fly by...Space? The Space Between by Roxy Music? I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper by Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip? Space Age Love Song by A Flock of Seagulls? Outa-Space by Billy Preston? Or Spacer by Sheila B Devotion? Automatic Lover by Dee D Jackson? Come on; enjoy the space cheese.

    E.T. The Extra-terrestrial-big-mix Tape

  • Comment number 24.

OooOoo how about "So long and thanks for all the fish" from Hitchhiker's guide? i reckon that'd sound Ace coming out of the Sunday afternoon news...

Buckles, the hitherto unheard early version of "Fitter, happier..." that you played was a revelation... i'm sure you're nto going to play it again, but i really appriciated it.

  • Comment number 25.

I think 'Planet of the Tapes' is still an appropriate name too!
    Here's some more:
    The C90 of Tranquility

  • Comment number 26.

Wow, most of the songs I wanted to suggest have already been given! Here are my suggestions for space/sky related songs or bands:

Song for Luna - As Tall As Lions
Mr. Blue Sky - Electric Light Orchestra
(Feels Like) Heaven - Fiction Factory
Bad Moon Rising - John Fogerty
    Wake Up - Lo-Star
    Jet - Wings

As for Mixtape titles, the best I have is '2010: A Tape Odyssey'. For me, that's quite good.

    Loveyoubye!

  • Comment number 27.

I know it's back to the Bladerunner soundtrack again but you could play Tears in The Rain, the bit where Roy is dying and he says "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...." Gorgeous and sad and very spacey!

    More dodgy tape name ideas!
    Venus in Tapes
A Tape Maker's Guide to the Galaxy
    Tape the Universe and Everything
The Radio Show at the End of the Universe

  • Comment number 28.

    Title suggestions:

    Cosmix
    Nep-tunes

  • Comment number 29.

Of course that should have been "The" Tape Maker's Guide to the Galaxy!
    @Rachel Grundy I love 2010- A Tape Odyssey it's fantastic! :D

@Hannibalcat cheese is good! I was gonna suggest I Lost My Heart...." too, it's a good one as it means Buckle's can mention some Hot Gossip fantasies from his youth! ;)

  • Comment number 30.

It would be wrong to call these title ideas good, so they are probably unwelcome, for which I can only apologise.

    Gerry & the Spacetapers
    Space of Spades
    Star TDK
    Space-E/DC
    Cosmic surgery?

  • Comment number 31.

Mike Oldfield - Supernova / Magellan
Eagles - Journey of the Sorcerer (Hitchhiker's radio theme)

  • Comment number 32.

(Drawing) Rings Around the World - Super Furry Animals (why didn't I think of that earlier?!)

  • Comment number 33.

    A few song suggestions...

Ooberman - Open the Hatch, "Space, vast and empty"

Muse - Exogenesis Symphony Pt 1.
Apollo 440 Lost in Space theme tune.

    Thanks very much, bye!

  • Comment number 34.

Hi Ed, Italo from Peru here... just wondering how far into the sessions are you and more or less when can we expect a new album and/or tour from Radiohead. Thanks and don't forget to return to South America! ;)

  • Comment number 35.

    @Mellomeh
Your name ideas are brilliant but you should combine them to make
    Cosmix Neptunes! :D :D

  • Comment number 36.

Please be kind, I'm new to bogging on web sites but like your
    bog. Some space songs:

    The Space-Marillion
    Kelly Watch The Stars-Air
    Moon River-Andy Williams
    The Universal-Blur
    Starman-David Bowie
    Supersonic-Oasis
    Wide Open Space-Mansum

  • Comment number 37.

    Question for Ed:
(Apart from 6music..) where are your favourite places to discover new music? It feels as though commercial TV and radio, and increasingly music websites, are too mediocre for interesting bands.. any sources to recommend?

    Nia

  • Comment number 38.

    And a question for Ed;

I love the work of Radiohead but I guess the band is sometimes associated with a lot of gloomy and dark songs. Would you agree that it is harder to write a happy song than a sad song? No Surprises uses major chords but still sounds very sad due to the manner in which Thom sings the vocal melody;it's kind of happy and sad at the same time isn't it?

  • Comment number 39.

    Songs!

Valentina, by comic book artist Lucy Knisley. It's a short, acoustic ditty for Valentina Tereshkova, the first female astronaut.

Flying Saucer over Mongolia, by Dogbowl. It's a short, psychadelic ditty for... I don't know what. But it has a flying saucer in it, and the clarinets are awesome.

  • Comment number 40.

My title suggestion would be "The Lunar Kids Are Taping Over the Cylon".

As far as suitably spacey song choices:-

    International Colouring Contest by Stereolab

    Wireless by Cardiacs

For Science by They Might Be Giants

Who Is The Doctor by Jon Pertwee

    Thanguverymuch

  • Comment number 41.

    Hi Ed,

Q1 What was it like being on Crystal Maze?
Q2 What made you grow your hair again?
Q3 Did you guess I done a joke based on your surname?
    Q4 How?
Q5 Can I please be in the band? I have a pineapple shaped maraca (that I made myself) & a travelcard (zones 1-4).

I truly love you and all that you do, sorry for the rubbish joke*, Amo.

    *Maraca stuff not a joke.

  • Comment number 42.

    i'd also like to hear;

The Killing Moon - Echo and the bunny men
    and
Jack names the planets by Ash (or, at least a bit of it.).

    Pleasethankxxxxx

  • Comment number 43.

    Mr Adam,

What a great guest! Although Ken was a charming man.

    Tape title names: Spacial Relationship,

    Question for Ed.

Oh hi Ed, how are you?

Good to hear it/Oh, hope you're coping

The theme of the tape is space- do you find that Radiohead write music with a certain space in mind? David Byrne did an interesting talk over at TED.com about the idea of the relationship between music and rooms, which was what got me thinking.

You've also spoken a lot about the music industry and how it should respond to the internet, and file-sharing. Any tips on how to self-release things in a useful way, without just badgering people? Is a label worth it anymore?
(I can't resist: www.myspace.com/harryburgessmusic - it's better than a full name makes it sound) Feel free to ignore that.

But anyway yeah. Very excited about whats gonna happen next in Radioheadom.

    thanks Adam/Ed!

    Harry

  • Comment number 44.

I meant to delete the entire tape-name section- i ran dry dry dry.

  • Comment number 45.

Question for Ed: Is it possible that Radiohead will release at least ONE studio recording this year?
From now, does it look like the next album will come out this year or the next?
If you could describe the next album with one word, what would that word be?

    Song suggestions:
Janelle Monae - Mushrooms and Roses...it's very spacey.
    Kanye West - Spaceship
    Kate Bush - Hello Earth

  • Comment number 46.

    ?'s for Ed.

    1. Is the band definitely working on an album as opposed to an EP?

    2. For the current recording sessions, is the band working on a pre-determined list of songs as they did for In Rainbows (where they worked on trying to "perfect" about 15 songs) or is it more of a fluid, organic process where new songs are emerging from the recording sessions?

    3. NEEDLESS TO SAY - when can we expect LP* from Radiohead?

    4. What can we expect from the new album in terms of musical themes, ideas and style?

    5. Ed earlier said the band was playing without fear and were more confident than they were while recording In Rainbows. Question = after the LA sessions and current recording sessions, is that still the case or is there the "same old" tension as the tough choices are made about crafting songs and the overall direction of the band.

  • Comment number 47.

Space mix is definitely my favourite kind! Trying to avoid theme tunes (because this list would then be super-long), my suggestions:

    Babylon Zoo - Spaceman
    Prodigy - Out Of Space
    The Tornadoes - Telstar
    Ooberman - Silver Planet
Jeff Wayne - Eve of the war (War of the Worlds so rocks, even though most of it is on earth, this one refers to space!)

OK, I can't completely avoid theme tunes, how about the RED DWARF THEME TUNE?!

    Cheersmuchlybye! Ralli.

  • Comment number 48.

    Awesome podcast Mr Buckles.

Suggested songs I'd love to hear:
    1) Out of Space - Prodigy
    2) Things Behind the Sun - Nick Drake
    3) Space and Time - Verve
    4) Alien - Bush
    5) Space Truckin' - Deep Purple
    6) Suspended Space - LTJ Bukem

    7) And most obvious = Walking on the Moon - Sting

    Thanks Goodbye

  • Comment number 49.

Okay, I'm going to try and submit a title for this week's mix tape: Mixtape on the Moon. Yes, I know, I know... ;)

As for music, here are some songs I have thought of:

    Conor Oberst 'Cape Canaveral'
    Aimee Mann 'Satellite'
    Rilo Kiley 'About The Moon'
Belle & Sebastian 'A Space Boy Dream'

  • Comment number 50.

    Question for Ed:
Will Radiohead get to utilise Jonny's banjo on the next Lp?

Turquoise Hexagon Sun - Boards of Canada
Up in the Air - Emeralds
    Another Moon Song - Espers
New Star in the Sky - Air
Theme From Space Island - !!!
Watching the Planets - The Flaming Lips
Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space - Spiritualized
and of course, Subterranean Homesick Alien - Radiohead

  • Comment number 51.

Name for tape - The Mix Who Fell to Earth?

A track to play - I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spaceship from Bowie's 2002 album Heathen. It's quite mental. I do love it though.

Maybe you could use Across the Universe by the Beatles (or Bowie's cover version from Young Americans?!).

Or even the Cantina Band Song from Star Wars: A New Hope soundtrack. Doob deep doob deep do de doop.

Love the show, and I'm loving Ken Korda the more I heard/see him.

    Thanks greatly.

  • Comment number 52.

The only title I can think of is the dubious 'Close Encounters of the Heard Kind.'

I just created a space themed playlist on itunes (other media players are available) so many thanks for the idea. Song ideas:

Flight of the Conchords - Bowie
    Asha Puthil - Space Talk
    Ulrich Schnauss - Stars
Mogwai - New Paths to Helicon (Part 2)
The Flaming Lips - Vein of Stars
The Beatles - Across The Universe
    M83 - Moonchild
Brian Eno - Another Green World or anything from the Apollo Atmospheres album.
The Only Ones - Another Girl, Another Planet
Mamas and Papas - Shooting Star
Air - Kelly Watch The Stars
    Sigur Ros - Svefn-g-englar
    Royksopp - In Space
Close Encounters of the Third Kind theme.

Can't wait to hear the show on Sunday. Keep up the great work!

  • Comment number 53.

Title suggestions : Paranoid Asteroids, Faustn'Space, The Wrath of Can,

    Some song ideas :

Fleetwood Mac - Sisters of the Moon
    101 Strings : Flameout
Taste : Blister On The Moon
God Is An Astronaut : Suicide By Star
    Moonshake : Spaceship Earth
    Sonic Youth : Star Power
    The xx : Infinity
    Nick Drake : Pink Moon

And for Ed : Hurry Up ;)

  • Comment number 54.

    Ah ha, now we see the reason for no Shatner in last weeks tape, you were saving up his version of "Rocket Man" for this weeks. If you really wanted to go post-modern you could always use Stewie from Family Guys version of Shatner's version. My other suggestions would be;

Lost in Space - Aimee Mann (I'm going to keep suggesting her songs til you use one & wouldn't she make a wonderful guest?)

    Rockets - Eg & Alice

Boring sennas_elbow truefact. From what I understand the Lemon Jelly track "Spacewalk" (which is mentioned above and is ace.) is based on a transcript of a rumoured secret tape in which a Gemini astronaut describes a UFO he sighted during a spacewalk.

Can't think of a title for the tape as I'm still in shock from this week.

  • Comment number 55.

One small mix for ad, one giant mix for mankind?

Ok thats a bit off, but I tried!

Everyone's Gone to the Moon by Nina Simone was for some reason the first song that came to my mind with the space theme.

  • Comment number 56.

I just have to correct you there Buckules - no one could possibly be a threat to Mr. Grohl's title. He's too nice. If anyone even came close he'd be so nice he'd just hand over the award to them so as not to cause conflict.

As for songs for the space theme, I have to suggest the disco version of the 'Star Wars' main theme for two reasons - it was the opening track of the first mix CD my lovely boyfriend made me when we'd just started going out, and just because it's excellent.

    Llama ##'##'##'---------!

  • Comment number 57.

    @a_man_possessed
That's a brilliant name! ...and I was just popping back on to suggest the theme from Close Encounters...coolio!
Some of John Carpenters soundtrack to Dark Star - Benson Arizona
    Queen - Flash

@Rallish - Yeah War of the Worlds Rocks!

My goodness there are so many tasty bits of dialogue you can put in the megamix in you do one this week...
"Botany Bay, Botany Bay, Oh No..."
    "Gordon's Alive!"
"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy!"
"She'll make point five past lightspeed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself."
"...oh My God, it's full of stars!"
"It's a robot. Ash is a god damn robot."
"Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen!"
    " Space the final frontier..."
    "A beedly, beedly, beedly, Buck!"

...and of course there's some lovely sound bites from the moon landing!

    I could go on...:D

  • Comment number 58.

@katj39 that's brilliant title...everyone's coming up with the goods!

  • Comment number 59.

My second favourite line from a sci-fi film would be The Thing and is far too rude for a family mixtape (hint spider head scene.)

But my favourite sci-fi movie line?
"Too bad she won't live...but then again, who does?"

  • Comment number 60.

    Thought of a couple more:

Fader Gladiator - Battle of the Planets:

Lou Reed - Satellite of Love (does that count? I don't know)

Osymoso's Spaced Jam (again, stretching it):

Rogue Wave - Stars and Stripes (I know that probably doesn't count either, but I love these guys and they deserve so much more recognition):

    same goes for...

    Sparklehorse - Cruel Sun:

OK, I think that's it now.

  • Comment number 61.

    @Sennas
Well yes, there are loads of good quotes from Bladerunner!
    This is the best one:
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die."

    I'm going to cry now...sniff...sniff :(

  • Comment number 62.

    Question for Ed:

A snippet of a recording of a soundcheck from Los Angeles (24 August 2008) has been circulating, with the lyrics "'cause you're having a breakdown/You've got small holes in your eyes/hovering birds of prey/Before they come... wake/ring me".

Colin was interviewed in August 2009, was played the snippet recording and said it was one of his favorite of the new songs Radiohead were working on, but couldn't remember the title. Would you happen to know the title of the song and its likelihood for LP8?

Us crazy fans who know it exists and have pored over this clip numerous times are calling it "Wake Me (Before They Come)" but we're probably totally wrong.

    Hope all's well, Ed!

    Song suggestions:
"Drunk on the Moon" - Tom Waits
"Turquoise Hexagon Sun" - Boards of Canada
"Hey Saturday Sun" - Boards of Canada
"Third Stone from the Sun" - Jimi Hendrix
"Night on the Sun" - Modest Mouse
    "Saturday Sun" - Nick Drake
"Staring at the Sun" - TV on the Radio
"Space Oddity" (of course) - David Bowie
"Space (I Believe In)" - Pixies
"Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" - Spiritualized
    "Wandering Star" - Portishead
    "Starman" - David Bowie
"Satellite of Love" - Lou Reed

  • Comment number 63.

Questions for Ed: Thom has played a lot of songs since the release of In Rainbows acoustically that have all been fantastic. Has it proved challenging to preserve the true nature and emotion that these songs have while adapting them to a full band model? If so do they sound different when a full band is preforming them rather than just Thom?

Also how is the recording process going? Do you think you've made a lot of progress since you've began? Things seem to be more relaxed than ever. Is that the case?

  • Comment number 64.

Is there any cohesive decision, at the moment, in the band (for the next record) to avoid using any specific instruments? Any new interesting instruments that may make an appearance on the new album?

    thanks

  • Comment number 65.

ed . . . i truly consider all of you, special people that i admire . . . i felt the best energy in the world when i was close to Phil once . . . and i have my reasons to " feel " all of you . . . with this i mean i always learn from your words . . . then i would love to ask something . . .

i am very sad lately about people in general . . . the " way they are " . . . do you feel it might change one day ? do you feel there will be more people in the future who care for being nicer , who care for helping more , who care for being more sensitive , who care for being more respectful to others ? or you really think this is still going down and wont get better ? [ i am generally speaking of course , there are beautiful human beings as well ]

and yes ! ! this is related to " space " because my question seem to be from a person from other space . . . since is kind of weird [ or silly ? ] __

ed . . . you all have my best energy focus on all of you for years . . . i just wanted to say that as well . . .

    peace

  • Comment number 66.

How about 'E.V.A' by Jean-Jacques Perrey? A suitably spacey-sounding track and E.V.A of course referring to Extra-Vehicular Activity.

And 'Ticket To The Moon' by ELO is good for some 80's space nostalgia. Surprisingly good track when you listen to it again.

Title for the mix? 'Inner Space' comes to mind. 'Space Mixoddity', maybe?

WHEN IS THE ALBUM COMING OUT!?!?

  • Comment number 80.

Hello Adam. I have my A level this week so this has cheered me up no end! I can't wait.

Sorry I am lacking in imagination, the only thing I can think of, going a bit old school is 'Tapes 7'

I think nearly all the songs I can think of have been said, my first thought was 'out of space' by the prodigy.

I saw Radiohead at leeds festival last year and I think it may have been the best moment of my life thus far, whats it like knowing your music is still having a life altering effect on people?

Would you ever persue solo projects, or soundtracks like Jonny, and when is the next tour??Have you ever had any bad/awkward/good moments with fans and is there anyone you find yourself having a 'fanboy'moment with?

Also I love you. But not in a creepy way.

    Thankyou :)
    x

Oh also, after hearing the poem you read for thumbs down, if radiohead never break through, have you ever thought of going into the audio book business, it's definately a career waiting to happen...

  • Comment number 82.

    Hello Adam!

I'm glad to hear you managed to get out of the shed. It sounds as though you've just announced your homosexuality!

Please can you call the mixtape..........Space Shuffle!

Also I've got a few song suggestions for you: Space Odyssey by the Byrds and Chase the Devil by Max Romeo.

Send my love to Ed, I'm I huge Radiohead fan and have always considered him the eye candy of the band.

    Hi Adam and Ed!

Someone told me that if a person chants the words "Ok Computer" into a mirror anywhere from three to one-hundred times in a darkened room lit only by a candle, Thom Yorke will appear in a mirror and claw your eyes out and death will follow.

Anyway, I did this yesterday morning and now I'm really scared.

could you ask Ed if this is true or just an urban legend?
    I gotta know man.
If it is true, could you please ask Thom not to claw my eyes out
    and tell him I'm sorry.

    Thank you xxx

p.s Ed I think you are brilliant. A real talented and humble guy, hopefully I shall see your guitar skills live one day!

p.s #2 Adam you are a cool dude too.

    love,

    verity xxx

The title should be: In space no-one can hear your mixtape.

  • Comment number 86.

Dear Ed, only you and Colin haven't seemed to have broken out into significant solo efforts, not to break up the band but what about a Colin and Ed beat combo, and you wouldn't have to have Thom messing with everything with laptops!

    Suggestions wise?
    The National - Available
LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change
    Modest Mouse - King Rat

Hello Ed, has the band decided yet how you will be releasing the new album, how about the band coming round to everyone that wants to buy it, and you play the album and like last time we pay what we think it's worth, this way we have to look you in the eye as we hand over our 10p.

    My question for Ed:

With Adam's assertion mind, who do you think is the nicer man of rock: yourself, or Dave Grohl? And do you think either man is really as nice as Colin, who seems PARTICULARLY nice?

  • Comment number 90.

    hi!
First the fact that my fave Adam person and my fav Radiohead person will be in the same room AND i get to hear what they'll say is making my mind explode.

Second, question for Ed: do you know the Adam and Joe gig behavior manifesto? Anything you'd add to the list as a performer or concert-goer?

    loveyoubyyeeeee!!!!!!

    Question for Ed:

Dear Ed, I know you guys have been working in the album for a while but we haven't gotten many updates on DAS lately. Won't you post pics of you guys in the studio like you did with IR? We want to see the studio beards!

    thanks!

  • Comment number 92.

Ed, do you think that if each one plays for his side, that means a disconnection of the band in the future?

  • Comment number 93.

This show clearly has to be peppered with Bowie songs and with a revival of Adam's impression hopefully. Wuzza wuzz? And "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" by The Darkness is famously about sex with aliens; what's a better mix-tape candidate than that?

  • Comment number 94.

    Hi Ed.

Please explain why for every ten thousand innovative, talented, young musicians (i.e. Arcade Fire), there's a Kesha. Or is it Ke$ha? Oh, hell who cares.

Yeah, and I like your eyes. Nice color.

  • Comment number 95.

    Like Spinning Tapes

    Mixtapeamatosis

    2+2= MIXTAPE!

Also, what did Ed think of Abingdon School, where the band met? Thom seems to hate it with a passion - would Ed 'ever go back'?

  • Comment number 96.

    Dearest Adam McBuckles,

    Long time listener, First Time..Eh..Contributor

May I suggest you play Star fighter Pilot by Snow Patrol (awesome tune with a bonus Capt Kirk Reference)

Also a Question to pose to Ed, I was at a Radiohead Gig in Glasgow Green where there was some sporadic protests at the amount of energy being used with some fans turning there back to the stage. I was just wondering his opinion on this?

  • Comment number 97.

The best space-related song I have ever heard is Laika by Calypso King The Mighty Sparrow. It tells the sad tale of Laika, the dog the Russians sent into space in 1957 on Sputnik 2 and who obviously never returned to Earth. Sparrow was not happy about the dog's orbital fate. The lyrics are hilarious. As Sparrow says, "If you want to be an explorer, go yourself, but don't send Rover."

  • Comment number 98.

Mr Ed, you have the sexiest speaking voice in the world. Like melted chocolate in the ear canal. Any chance we could ever hear it as lead vocals on a song? Phil's doing it after all

Oh and I'm answering jedigoggs question for you: those people are willies.

I would like to hear the theme song to 'Barbarella' by Charles Fox as it is camp and fun and it fits in the space theme :)
Some sound clips for Star Trek would be awesome too!
