Oh Carol...

Bryan Burnett | 20:03 UK time, Monday, 20 December 2010

What are Scotland's best loved Christmas Carols? That's the question that we'll be asking on Tuesday's Get It On. There's a choir behind our advent calendar and we'll have our very own choir in the studio. The Glasgow Chamber Choir will be performing the songs you ask for and we'll also feature a selection on CD from some of the best known names. However, I'm also keen to get some alternative renditions in there as well so let's see what you come up with. I'm relying on the bloggers to make this a carol concert like you've never heard before.

Ok one xmas, one not. Can the choir practice and do either:

    or

Mott The Hoople - All The Young Dudes

Night out, eh! What about a suggestion to meet in Babbity Bowser in the Merchant City?

Theme... obviously it's Seven O'Clock News / Silent Night by S&G!

  • Comment number 7.

....eh, what? some amazing suggestions above, anyway I'm gonna play it straight on this one!
When I was at school the choir did a good rendition of "Torches" by John Joubert, you don't hear it very often but it's quite a rousing anthem.

The other one I like is "Oh Holy Night" which is the one you hear near the end of the movie "Home Alone".

    Stille Nacht AKA Silent Night.
Not to be misinterpreted as a wish for nothing to be sung or played on Tuesday.
Really struggling to get into the festive spirit at the moment, one way or another. This song usually manages to break through the whatevers.

    'Winter Rose' - The Bees

    #7 the best version of

Dare say there will be a lot of shouts for versions of 'Silent Night'....

Now don't get me wrong... I am not the worlds biggest fan of Xmas, and I am not the worlds biggest fan of Enya, but come Xmas eve, large dram in hand, log on the hearth-rug and smoldering labrador on the fire...

Silent Night (Gaelic鈥1989): Enya.... and Xmas has just started for me!

If we can get this carol finished, can we have the choir sing the bloggers version?

Well, Norrie, that was in the days when there was a REAL battle for the Christmas No 1. With proper Christmas pop songs too.
Amazingly, such was the competition, Leicester's finest only got as high as No 8 with Hey Mr C.

They are not on this, but what a show! Complete with Henri Hannah's Hero as Host.

  • Comment number 33.

No 8 that's is quite surprising. I would have thought it got higher than that just shows you. Maybe that's why Del Boy was flogging their lp's!

Interesting factoid Norrie. However, I'd guess Trotters Independent Traders would still have easily fleeced the Grangemouth fanbase >8-)

In Bryan's steps Babs she trod
    Where the snow lay chilling
    Soldiered on despite cold bod
    Thinking of requests most thrilling
    On Tuesday request a song
By facebook, email or by blog
Turn it up and sing along
    Lift the freezing fog!

So we need a yuletide song
    One the Blog thinks good
It needn鈥檛 be by Tull or Gong,
    Or even by Roy Wood
Play us the track that we ask
So we say, Who鈥檚 the Daddy!鈥
    What about 鈥淗ey Mr Christmas鈥?
    By Showaddy wah鈥aaaa..yyyyy.

I guess I am really dim since it was the wrong song I had in my head! Thanks for sorting it, DC
