Play it again Sam...

Bryan Burnett | 19:58 UK time, Friday, 13 April 2012

I wonder if the great Robert Wilson ever imagined that he would end up played on the same programme as X Ray Spex and Kings of Leon. Such is the joy of Get It On and your wonderful suggestions. The stories were outstanding tonight - I loved the 3 year old claiming that everyone at nursery was into Oasis!

Monday's programme is all about the songs that make you want to instantly hit the rewind button. It could be the ones that are so short you feel you've been cheated, the tracks that are so complex you might have missed a bit, or maybe the tunes that deserve to be put on repeat play just for the fun of it.

What would you put on instant replay? Get in touch and let me know...

    Re bonjour Bryan, Blogotariat, etc...
S'il vous plait, un petit peu de curiosité; écoutez jusqu'à la fin. Je trouve toujours que ce que fait la section cuivres est hypnotique.

Please be a little curious and listen to this song till the end. I always find that what the brass section does is hypnotizing.

this video file took me some searching. I hope you can access it easily.

Well, all my doubts about going to the circus were instantly dissolved. This was nothing like the Kelvin Hall.Smiffy was right, I was enthalled.

I think this show is still on for a couple of days so anyone trying to amuse themselves this weekend should definately try and pick up a ticket for Cirque du Soliel - Allegria at the SECC.

    Absolutely breathtaking!

And yet. what struck me was that at it's core, the things they did were traditional things you might expect to see in the circus - they just do them to an amazing standard. Truly awesome - and something I never previously understood or 'got' or found funny is clowns and mime - but again, this was an exhibition in how to do it properly and it was clever and hilarious - I was completely entranced.

    5 stars, highly recommended.

    Adam,

Next Wednesday I'll be requesting at least seven songs.

In mitigation, I have asked for all of them before. To no avail. So, if you arrange for my special dispensation forthwith, I shall be a grateful git.

    Thanking you in advance, etc.

Having felt the need to play this more times than I care to admit on a drive from London to Glasgow the other week - 'Me and My Arrow' - Harry Nillson. You just have to sing along, a happy feeling!

  • Comment number 29.

In no order of preference but all pre mp3, CD, shuffle repaet or whatever. Hope to hear on the radio or play over and over again. Restricted to four so:

Sparks - No.1 Song In Heaven

    Dave Edmunds - Girls Talk

Pretenders - Back On The Chain Gang

    Roxy Music - Over You

You do not hear the latter that often these days so might be a nice track to play. I distinctly remember listening to the radio hoping it would come on and played it to death when I eventually got a copy...

Nah. The Four Tops is Paolo's area of expertise. I'm requesting one for Monday, (see#2), so seven on Wednesday maintains my average.

Not sure about Tuesday, but Thursday I'm more sinned against than sinning, and Friday is basically "Pick Your Favourite Bryan Ferry Track".

  • Comment number 34.

One single I definitely played with the arm over so it played and played and played...
my very favourite Undertones track...love it from the feedback at the start to the sudden ending:
'You've Got My Number (Why Don'y You Use It)

Oft requested, always sadly ignored...a great single.

So many Bettye Lavette songs but in particular...
'Love Reign O'er Me' (seriously...how much longer can GIO ignore this)

'You Don't Know Me At All'

Graham Parker - 'Dark Side Of The Bright Lights'

  • Comment number 35.

    Skin Deep - the Stranglers

Knocking on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan

Perfectly Good Guitar - John Hiatt

    Grace - the View

Love Changes Everything / Climie Fisher

If I've missed the start of this song I have been known to skip it back on, the guitar funkiness and Simon Climie's voice make for a great mix.
    Top pop song.

#38 the blog certainly seems a bit listless over the weekend.

Personally speaking, those tunes I played to death actually bug me now and I don't want to hear them again.

4 that I can remember playing repeatedly

What a Fool Believes - The Doobie Brothers

Prophetic, was playing when I got engaged.

    Honey - El Presidente

Not even a single, but just love it.

    Alexandra Leaving - Leonard Cohen

Completely fascinating take on fatalism: i.e. the fetes intervene, the gods are capricious.

and the 4th one: a tie between

Tomorrow Night - Atomic Rooster and the whole of the first side of the white album, but let's say Dear Prudence - The Beatles... mind you, I also wore out my copy of Strawberry Fields Forever....and then there's the Jack Bruce track that won't get played anyway... Ticket's To Waterfalls.....oh and, recently I've been listening to a lot of Zappa - Cosmic Debris..but that won't get played either.

Any four will do... how many is that?
