Lovelines...

Bryan Burnett | 19:57 UK time, Monday, 13 February 2012

The songs that would play over the closing credits of your biopic would have made a fantastic soundtrack album so thanks to all who contributed. No question in my mind that the most interesting song was our closer, Keith Moon doing In My Life.

Every year at this time I wonder about how we 'do' Valentines on Get It On. I'm always tempted to an anti-love theme but that seems a bit mean. Maybe we could do year about?

Tomorrow we are going romantic though and I'll be asking for your lovelines. In other words, what are the best lines every written in a love song." I could drink a case of you..." would be mine but I look forward to receiving a bumper Valentines postbag from the bloggers. All sealed with a loving kiss of course.

Great, slightly surreal, lyric ( though not quite as surreal as 'Beyond the Sea'). Great Tune. Beautiful arrangement. Great performance from the greatest crooner of them all, imho.

For Smiffy, the wake up track on the boudoir sound system,Chateau Hannah.... yep, just as much an old romantic as the next guy...

I'll be so happy just to have spoken
    Fleet Foxes - Grown Ocean

    Moi je t'offrirai

Joni Mitchell - A Case of You

No, this is how it works
    You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took

I used to joke that I only married my ex because he was the only person I knew who owned a Steve Forbert album. It obviously wasn't enough to base a marriage on but I still have the LP so it's all OK in the end, though typically he didn't get the turntable fixed before he left ;o)

Not expecting any cards to be plopping through my letterbox today but that's no reason to fall out of love with love...or with beautiful lyrics...

Pick me up, shake me out
And hang me on the line
    I'm a fool for you
I looked up, saw you smile
And then I saw your eyes
    I'm in love with you
    You're too much for me
    I'm a worn-out sail
    On the sidewalk sea
    There's a light
There's a fire shining day and night
    It came burning through
Shine on me, shine on down
You keep me high and dry
    I'm in love with you
Steve Forbert - 'I'm in Love With You'

    Then there's...
"Tell her nothing if not this; all I want to do is kiss her" (Del Amitri - 'Tell Her This')
    Ah Justin...sigh! ;o)

Interesting point Adam, Rangers difficulties have ramifications much wider than the club. ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland has put a lot of resource into the footie in the form of expanding Radio Oldfirm, which has cost Janice her show.

Poor timing - the time to do that was about 15 years ago when Scottish football looked as though it might have somewhere to go.

I think the strategy is seriously flawed. The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Trust's pronouncement of speech daytime and distinctive Scottish music in the evening is, incredibly, based on a mere 1500 responses (including 'interested organisations') out of a population of 5m. Just because the majority don't bother to express their view doesn't mean they don't have one - probably more than 1500 people have signed off the petition to save Janice's show. It's the same problem with all market research based solutions, it's the ones not in the research that matter because they vote with their dial - but it's too late.

If Rangers are heading for the wilderness, much of the enthusiasm for the footie in the west with go with it, in my view, which is overdue anyway, the football in Scotland hasn't been a great product for years - this will only serve to shatter the illusion completely and speed up the decline.

That Radio Scotland has set such store by a declining product may be the undoing of the strategy.Once the west tune out new things will have to be devised to attempt to entertain - 'entertain' is the missing word in the Radio Scotland lexicon.

So a glimmer of hope for the henri hannah radio show - Get It On, the most entertaining show on the station was itself a six week filler for a slot that became spare after Scotland didn't qualify for the world cup (or so I read).

(Six weeks is all I need,Jeff.)

    regardez - youse

You can't have a show on valentine's night without playing Nat King Cole and George Shearing's "LET THERE BE LOVE". What other song could romantically blend Chile con carne with Sparkling champagne?!

"Let there be you, Let there be me. Let there be oysters Under the sea.
Let there be wind, An occassional rain. Chile con carne, Sparkling champagne --
Let there be birds To sing in the trees, Someone to bless me Whenever I sneeze.
Let there be cuckoos, A lark and a dove, But first of all, please --Let there be love."
