Your deepest, darkest musical secrets
Strictly speaking I don't really believe in the idea of feeling guilty about music you like. I like to make the show as inclusive as possible so that no matter what kind of music you like there will always be a space for it. My collection at home does contain some CDs that would make many men blush but I'm not bothered. ( Although if pushed maybe I would admit to displaying some albums a bit more prominently than others!)
Talking of embarrassing things that you'd rather didn't see the light of day, I was mortified when this appeared on our Facebook page. It was taken at the Venue in Aberdeen in 1985. Comments have ranged from 'sweet boy at an indie disco' to 'looks like you just got out of prison'. I'll leave you to decide which is most accurate...

Despite our Brazilian commentator's cruel and cynical observations it's very simple:-))
One point for every track I hear which is less obvious or that I've never heard before.
Tuesday's show was stuffed with a wide variety of great tracks, seldom played, even when the Beatles turned up it was a little played album track. Spoiled only by Queen, but I don't deduct points.
Early days, but it's interesting. I was reading Cerys Mathews in the Herald this morning about Radio 6 and they might as well have been interviewing anyone on this blog.

Nothing Rhymed / Gilbert O'Sullivan
(flat cap and all but a superb song)
Answer Me or People Get Ready / Barbara Dickson
(From the excellent Answer Me album, the latter is a cover of the Curtis Mayfield song and is first class)
The Show Must Go On / Leo Sayer
(Leo dressed as the clown using the whole circus metaphor, fantastic)

well, it's a good opportunity for Miss B to catch up some ground on the colleagues - by not playing the blatantly obvious novelty songs and playing things which are genuine guilty pleasures.
It seems a strange thing to say, but my guilty pleasure is Paul McCartney. It strikes me as odd that for years it has been kinda uncool to say so - some of his solo work strikes me as stunning.
Paul McCartney, once the epitome of cool, came to be vilified after The Beatles broke up and some of his solo work was disregarded for reasons that were little to do with the music, it seems to me. The problem stems from an inability to pick good singles or a deliberate arrogance to pick things least likely to succeed, thus giving the public a false impression of the material overall. I love McCartney's more obscure albums/tracks, from Flaming Pie backwards, no matter how unfashionable, particularly his pastiche Edwardian music hall numbers and his vocal shenanigans.
This blog is one of the places I can be completely open about this, and like our hero, some albums I don't seem to leave on the coffee table.
Any of these would demonstrate the point
Monkberry Moon Delight ( Ram)
Stranglehold (Press To Play)
You Gave Me The Answer ( Wings, Venus and Mars)
Check My Machine (McCartney 2)
Wunderlust ( Tug Of War)
Get It ( Tug Of War - with Carl Perkins)
Mr Bellamy (Memory Almost Full)
The Mess (Red Rose Speedway bonus track)
