It's clear that we all love a good cover version as tonight's show was one of the busiest in a long, long time. There was enough material to run for a week and I wonder if we might try something like that later in the year? Perhaps we could divide it into sub-genres like men covering women, 80s covers, folk doing pop etc. I just quite like the idea of going a whole week without playing the original.
The daffs may well be buried under snow in some parts of the country, but that will not stop us stepping into spring for tomorrow night's theme. Flower power will rule as I play everything from Build Me Up Buttercup to the Yellow Rose of Texas. Let's not forget the artists either, as The Lilac Time and Lilly Allen could both qualify for Wednesday's playlist.
men covering women? on a teatime show? tut tut tut
FLOWERS
Wildflowers - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers The Last Living Rose - PJ Harvey Hyacinth Hotel - the Doors Dandelion Blues - The Incredible String Band Plastic Flowers - James Grant
what I meant to say was, last night's show - didn't enjoy all the covers by any means, some were very plodding, as if slowing down were the only way of variation from the original, but no matter, this was no standard playlist and well done for that. Especially liked the Civil Wars, James Vincent McMorrow and White Stripes. Way to go, GIO!
In Search Of A Rose-The Waterboys.Saw them last night at the Concert Hall.Fantastic. Red Red Rose-Chip Taylor Rambling Rose-Nat King Cole Tiptoe Through The Tulips-Tiny Tim
Freesia jolly good fellow Anemone doo doo de doo doo.
Well done Miss B. After last month's modest showing, you've come out with all guns blazing - a blistering 20 pointer to equal Kirsten's record and a Thing Fish track into the bargain. Now, that's what I call eclectic!
Agreed with Paulo and Gaie that many of the covers weren't that different from the original but equally, many I'd never heard before, some I really enjoyed, not least Susan Boyle - they choose some very clever material for her, I guess she wasn't a big Depeche Mode fan.
Anyway, Bryan and tonight's producer, just the one for tonight, but guaranteed it's the track of the night!
Les Fleurs - Minnie Riperton
regardez - youse
henri
PS Scotch - to whom did you award the Chocolate Egg? And have they received it? As Adam points out, it's Easter after all. I''ve got a draw for last month, and am not sure how to resolve it.
I, too, finished with a draw, despite my scoring method differing from your own. My solution was to give all of the team one humungous CHOCOLATE EGG and let them fight each other for it.
My sources at ´óÏó´«Ã½ HQ at PQ inform me that the bell has just rung for round two.
Ìý If I want to hear The Eurythmics I'll ask for The Eurythmics. Thorn In My Side isn't even a reference to me, but to Paul! And don't think I missed that fair crack of the whip crack!
