Is There A More Welcoming Sight Than. . .

Chris Evans | 12:33 UK time, Thursday, 8 April 2010

. . . a sun dappled hammock, softly swaying in the warm breeze beneath a majestic old oak tree on a day like today - teasing you to drop everything at hand, encouraging you to put your schedule on hold and succumb to its seductive charms ?

I would say no - not for a second.

And that's what I saw today, as I pulled into our drive when I returned home from work this lunchtime.

So - what am I gonna do ?

I'm gonna go buy us a hammock because I may have seen it - but only in my mind. We don't actually own one !

Beautiful out there it is.

    Afternoon,

CLP, go and buy that Hammock today, the forecast is looking up , and it's going to include Saturday AND Sunday, what a treat.

We are reviewing the sunlounger situation, and talking about buying a BBQ too. Am worried that if we make the purchases it will jinx the summer !

    Love to everyone,

    Hi Chris:

It's not quite hammock weather up here in Glasgow! However, very happy for you, and everyone with the sun today. No hammock for me, thanks. I may be able to get into it, but I would have to stay there forever, what with the delightful frozen shoulder and bad back!

Lovely to see you as always!

    Hi to everyone else.

Just catching up on yesterdays blog

MwK, JG, get well soon, one lady in our office is suffering with Hayfever, we would dearly love to open the windows today, but we are situated on a river bank and the trees and grasses are everywhere.

MTF, want to do a location swap ??

Door bell update - its the little pressy plastic thing thats been removed. Found my neighbours on the path this morning, so i presume we have light fingers in the hood . Grrrrrr

    Beez, (((((xxx))))

Am mad busy at the mo, so trying to keep up as and when, thinking of you all.

    Hello Christophe.

A hammock sounds lovely, beautiful day here in NW too. But how does one get into a hammock? Also, how does one hold drink in hand? Another problem, I only have one tree. Then there's the seagull droppings to consider.

I think I'll settle for my bench.

    MK

  • Comment number 8.

LOL MC, had visions of them staggering away witha ships bell!

I think a locastion swap would be ok short term, but as nice as someone elses area sounds, there's no place like home eh, and your familiar surroundings.

BTW, I bought Hollands pies here, yes here in Somerset.

Its ok, Lady Chards is still sunning herself in Devon, that is if she has dragged herself out of the thatch yet!!!

Chrissie, I do hope the good forecast reaches you very soon.

    Afternoon chumbleys!

Been lurking and thank you for making me smile, you lovely mad bunch.

CLP, have you ever tried to get into a hammock!?!? Now, I've never given birth but I believe the loss of dignity of getting into a hammock is equatable thereto. Sounds lovely tho - I can almost hear leather on willow upon the village green and taste the Pimms!

I've been told this morning that my time here is at an end on Monday. The new PA starts and I am doing a one day handover (good of me, eh!?). So, if this weather stays with us maybe the garden at ChezNic Towers will get a seeing to, a glance, a wink .....

LOL, Hollands pies in Somerset, what ever next ! I hardly ever eat them , but they are good.

Chrissie, sorry to hear you are still having problems with your shoulder.

Marji - i agree with you, a hammock is just such hard work , i am worn out just thinking about the logistics of getting in and staying in .

    Why you may ask?

I was in the hammock in Cannock!

    Good day!

  • Comment number 19.

MTF you made me chuckle about your husband and the hammock. I'm not very good at balance so I wouldn't even attempt it.

  • Comment number 20.

    MTF,

That reminds me of when we were in a bathroom showroom a few years ago.

I decided to have a sit in one of those fancy spa baths. I stepped into it and the whole display just collapsed. I wish the floor would have opened up at the time . We were looking at sunloungers the other week and i just wouldnt go near any of the displays to try them out, although the swing displays were sooooo tempting .

I feel a bit guilty about extolling the georgeous weather we have down south, when it's not so nice in other parts - but it really is a lovely day. However, not wishing to be a doom mongerer (sp) will we be moaning in 2-3 months time when it's really hot, about how hot it is? Or will we remember the cold, harsh winter and be grateful?? Just a thought.

    Hi Troops:

To Susan and Cheryl: good to see you are both so positive. Something will turn up soon, but I know that's easy for me to say.

MTF: thank you re: the weather! Well, we are just in one of the worst places in the UK here in Glasgow. As I've said before, all this rain is very good for our complexions!

MC: thank you, too, re: the shoulder. I am now so used to the pain, it's quite incredible. Every now and then when I wince with agony, MrS will say "what's up?". What's up? Look, mate, I have had this ruddy thing since October! If the gorgeous MrS so much as sneezes three times in a row, it's a catastrophe! (love him, really!)

AliB: no need to feel guilty. You are in one of the best parts of the UK for good weather. When I win the Lottery and have my magnificent bungalow in Broadstairs, I will be very happy!

    Hello :-)

Just popped in to say Hi and thanks for the kind words. It's a little hectic work-wise at the minute which is why I haven't been around lately - and why I've deactivated my `other side' connections, the temptation to log in every five minutes to check whether Jarno Trulli had fixed his broken seat was just too much to bear.

Hopefully things will ease off a little soon (I'd cross my fingers but that makes typing a little difficult) and I can return with more ridiculous game ideas. The one I'm working on at the moment is `Big Toe Bingo'. Contestants get a gamecard with the names of twelve celebrities on it - they then have to track down the celebs on their card and get a photo containing contestant, celeb and celeb's big toe (choice of foot is optional). Winner gets a selection of celebrity big toe photos.

Oh well, must go - take care all. Be back as soon as I can - promise!

    UC

    P.S. CSN - congrats!!

  • Comment number 47.

    Hello Gang!

I really hope you are all having a lovely day.

Up darn Essex it is stunning, I have just spent an hour in the garden reading in the sunshine!

Have had a good day today if a little spooky! Decided to take the boys to an "attraction" about 45mins from us that we've just never got round to going to. Not knowing what was happening in the news, we went to the Secret Nuclear Bunker that would have held the Prime Minister and what was left of the government if there had been a nuclear war. i then got back in the car and heard the news that the Russians and Americans have had talks today about reducing the amount of nuclear war heads!

Very interesting place but am afraid i may have revisited some of my teenage nightmares. i remember early on at senior school we did a whole topic on Nuclear War, in english I think as I remember reading a book and watching films, gave me the proper heebie jeebies it did and I pray that our children will never know that!

Afterwards went to big woodland park in Brentwood, had a picnic and a lovely walk around, then finished off with an ice cream. it was so warm I took my jacket but then left it behind on the bench. Wouldn't be so bad but my camera was in the pocket! So now we're going to have to drive back to collect it!

Never mind, good day despite that!

    Seza xx

  • Comment number 48.

Oh and the boys thought it was hilarious that to get to the SECRET nuclear bunker, you had to follow the brown tourist signs!

Meant to say I have phoned them and jacket was still lying on the bench. Is now in the office waiting for me to drive all the way back to collect it!

    Hello Everyone,

Reading all your posts has put me in a very Summery frame of mind. I'm loving the picture you lot are painting with Nic and Deevs in matching hammocks a la Terry and June perhaps!! Deevs am loving all your different monikers, and why do your legs ache Nic, or shouldn't I ask??!

It has been a gorgeous day here in East Anglia, and the swallows have arrived at last. They obviously had inside information regarding the weather. The toads around next doors pond are making a heck of a racket- didn't think such small creatures could be so noisy! Mr Mcw and son have been hard at it building a patio, so hopefully in a week or two, I will be out there, sipping my Pimms and catching some rays and not raindrops I hope!

I relly feel like spring is in the air today, and felt a real boost after the long yucky winter. Having said that I'm exhausted tonight after six busy days at work and am sooo looking forward to lie in tomorrow.

CLP my husband has just pointed out that you have no need to grow a beard as you have a Tash!! xxx

Glad you enjoyed my joke Suzie.

Seriously, he did wrong but it must have been very difficult for him to apologise. I don,t judge him because how can the rest of us know how we would behave if we were a world champion golfer with so much power.

I really enjoyed your joke MK - you have such a good sense of humour - but you know - I don't think Tiger had or has that much power - we are all responsible for our individaul actions, the things we do and say, and we have to live with the consequences. But he has a wonderful talent - and I hope it continues to be realised despite his frailties [sp] ergo his ever so human faults, as the rest of us do.

Keep blogging - it is fun - and I suspect so are you!

Sorry, went to look at the video.
I agree, there are two ways of looking at TW's actions. He should also be a good role model and set a good example.

Agree that CLP doesn't suit his beard.

I have seen some bizarre behaviour while out and about, but todays surpassed anything I had ever seen before!

There was snarling, growling, teeth baring, feet stomping and I am certain I witnessed some foaming at the mouth!

And the reason for all this was....

...because the tills went down at Tescos this evening.

And people wonder why I love wildlife. Its certainly more dignified!

Actually Beez, I ran around putting all the frozen food back that was in trolleys that folk had abandoned. Simply cant abide waste!

It was quite fuuny though, cos they were all dashing off to the M store which had exactly the same problem.

I just enjoyed the moment to stand and take time out.

99% of them were on holiday for goodness sakes. Why leave your shopping until 7 and then drag your screaming kids out when all they want is their dinner by now.

No Beez, I was on the ball. Only a mini store.

The lights went out as soon as I entered the store.

Then came back on again, then went off when I hit the booze aisle.

    Spooky eh!

Beez, apparently they are leaving my Scrumpy Jack alone.

So to celebrate, I splashed out on one of ELHs finest bouquets.

Lots of my favourite Lilies and roses and all wrapped up in black satin.

    A steal at 2 pounds.

Not the original price by any means.

Will put some pics on tomorrow. If only you could capture the smell too.

    MTF, away myself now.

    Got a holiday to book.xxx
