Life Is Back But What To Do Now?

Chris Evans | 11:42 UK time, Tuesday, 7 September 2010

Book ll is now done and dusted and off to the printers. Suddenly I finish the radio show every day and have - at worst - a whole heap more time than I have had for the last few months to ponder...and perhaps plan.

So what happens next - relaxation, reading and reclining? Er, well no actually.

Just the onset of mild panic brought on by space and time opening up again enough to wonder what the heck it's all about, and why we are all here in the first place...

Please anything but that.

Time is to be filled, not killed. Next project please !

    Howdie CLP!

As of next week, my hours are being cut at work which means finishing at 2pm every day. I am kind of looking forward to having a tad more time to go to the gym, write short stories (my course starts in 2 weeks today!), cook healthy things for me and my man.

The downside is the cut in money, which through hard work, you don't have to worry about.

So, enjoy Tash, enjoy Noah growing up, enjoy the odd game of golf in the afternoons. Take up stamp collecting, watch an old movie.

But basically, in the profound words of Wham! ...... Enjoy what you do!

    Muchos amore.

If all else falis, you have a lovely kite to fly now!

Deevs, well said! Hope the reduced hours will improve your work situation.

    Tiggs, Hi honey

Gingembre, saw you on last blog. How was your holiday? Wish you'd let us know if you had a good time! ;-)

    Baggy - (((hugs))))

I've run away from work today! My office is all wet paint, I have no computer and no phone!!

    Hiya!

Chris, take the time out to enjoy the next 2 or 3 years or so watching your boy develop. These are the best times of his little life and you will never get them back. Whatever you do, I'm sure you'll have fun.

    Hey Christophe and Allski !

Golf of course, a course! You've already mentioned "one day" having your own course, why not now? Something Tash can work on with you designing it, being a pro golfist. Maybe a miniature Wentworth complete with ickle bungalow for Marky Mark to spend his retirement in.

I can see it now - charity events, pro-ams and may be even an academy.

    Just a thought or five.

    Hey CLP!

Personally - more time with the wife and kids can only be time well invested - trust me....I have a five and a seven year old and I can hardly believe that they have reached these ages so quickly.
Although we do tons of varied activities and adventures, we're quite an insular unit as a family and the time we have together is priceless. We do spend time with family and friends obviously - just not as much as maybe they would like....If only there were more hours in the day eh?

Professionally - I really enjoyed that golf series you did years ago. How about revisiting that or knowing what you're like for new ventures - and not entirely stretching the imagination - couldn't you do something Ferrari related? Maybe a history of the greatest models and their cultural significance at the time.....might be a limited audience, but thats your department, you're the ideas man!

Come on - get on with it!!

Hi to the rest of Blogsville - Hope you're all well and living the dream :-)

Ginge - swap teams??? NEVER!!!!!! But yes, things have changed for me this year and I'm loving life.

The gym that my lovely man has got us signed up to is fab and nowt like one of the corporate high street brands owned by Dragons or the like. They have done a programme for me which is all on an ickle key which I plug into the machine and it tells me what to do! And the swimming pool is lush - I'm up to 60 lengths without stopping now. And the best bit - when I've done all the workout stuff, I can go relax in the sauna and steam rooms for a bit. Luverly!

Not having too bad an afternoon at work. All around me are in meltdown mode so I'm being a calm, supportive oasis of loveliness!

oh - I'm surprised no one has mentioned it - did you see the man from ELO died by being hit by a hay bale? Very sad for all concerned - but surely that goes down in rock and roll history as the strangest way to die?

  • Comment number 29.

Baggy - Jeremy Vine wasted a good chunk of R2 airtime yesterday by creating an entire phone in on the perils of hay bales in the countryside. I couldn't believe what I was hearing!!!

I can't help but wonder if it would have made such headline news had it been a regular, hard-working farmer killed under same circumstances!

Seza, google's good today isn't it!

Baggy, hope you met your deadlines, and good for you for saying No! I had a conversation with my boss today to discuss my workload, but whilst he was sympathetic, he is under pressure from his boss...

And then he had the cheek to add two further things to my workload - I nearly went home!

Oh well, I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, or is it just some bugger with a torch bringing more work? LOL

Deevs, sorry to hear about your reduced hours, although it gives you an excuse to look for something else.

Evening each. Haven't caught up yet, was so tired after looking after 10month old yesterday I was in bed early.

CLP, I'm sure there's stuff brewing in your head right now to keep you occupied for the next year.

Fierce rain and wind in Fife this morning, then it was blue sky and sun in the afternoon. Oldest grandson is away with the school to Ardroy on the west coast for a week. Hope they found undercover stuff to do this morning. We're all missing him.

    Morning all

Woo Hoo to England doing the business last night. The football match was quite good too I thought.

Well, I've got the office to myself today and I've just come in to loads of stuff - which is fab as it will help the day go quicker. Everyone else is at a company "do" which I declined to attend, on the grounds that what it's costing per head I'd rather have in my pay packet and to be perfectly frank, I'd rather be at home with my fella this evening than in a hotel miles away with a load of sozzled colleagues.

CLP - loving the 80s toon at arout 7.50 - yesterday Culture Club and today ABC. CAn we have a bit of Human League tomorrow please as it will help with the black eyeliner application!

Right, will be back when I've done a bit.

Don't you get a lay in at the w/end and that lovely fella of yours brings you a coffee ;)

  • Comment number 47.

LOL Bids - I've never been one for lay ins. I can usually survive on 6-7 hours a night and once my body clock has had those hours, I have to get up. Weekends I leave my man to have a bit of a lay in on Saturdays but Sundays we have a 7 year old alarm clock that makes sure we're both up and awake just after 8am! Bless him!

morning ladies (and CLP and any other lads lurking)

So - my job is on the rocks and money is tight to mention and yet I'm smiling - why

    well 1) I have a fantastic husband
    2) I have some great friends, as proven yesterday when I was given a lift on a bike from work to pub pick up point, and then lift in car to my car - all so I didn't ahve to struggle with the public transport (or lack of it)
    3) tonight I'm going out to dinner - and its not costing any of us a penny - 4 friends having fun for free
    4) I've given up caring about my job - I'm still working just as hard but now if they sack me I'll deal with it and get something better

    Rock on

    Baggy

  • Comment number 50.

    A lie in Bids!!!

I had been down the Exe Valley to Tiverton and was on my way back up again by the time you surfaced!

What a beautiful morning it was too. Thick mist all the way down, following the river and then on the way back, I climbed up and over Exmoor, where the mist had lifted and there were lots of red deer and Exmoor ponies about. AND biggest bonus of all.... I got to hear the whole show! Times like this, I wish my job started the other end of the day. Especially now I am getting home in the dark most nights.

Still, to have a job at all is something and I do enjoy my own company if that doesn't sound too selfish.

So, time to crack on before I have to start work again.

I might get a sneaky half hour in the deckchair if I get a wiggle on!

    Happy Humpday.

    Multi Cheerios.

    Morning!

Have got back into my office now, computer re-connected - now I've just got to find places for all the things I've taken out of the office.

It looks all spick and span now - I don't really want to mess it up by putting stuff in it again!

Maybe if I just leave all the work type stuff where I've stashed it, no one will ever know!

Hope everyone ok today, has been very grey and overcast here but looks like it is finally brightening up a bit.

    Hope so
