My F1 2010 season review

Post categories: ,Ìý

Murray Walker | 11:36 UK time, Thursday, 25 November 2010

I've been watching grand prix racing since before World War II and I can honestly say I have never seen a season with more excitement, drama and intrigue than 2010. This is my review of the year in which Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team really came of age.

Great review Murray. Look forward to seeing you next year.

  • Comment number 2.

Thanks Murray, was good as usual.

Now to everyone else, don't you think the bbc should replace Legard with Croft in the commentary team? Search youtube for "Legard vs Croft", and see what we are being subjected to needlessly.

    "joins the battle"

  • Comment number 3.

Great review of a great season Murray, not so sure about Vettel being a great racer but I do think he deserved to win the championship (well anyone would, even Alonso as long as he did by more than 7 points) it was a titanic struggle and no one could come out on top without deserving it. If only his racing smarts can match his raw speed.

For me the stand out driver of this season has been Kobi, he is great to watch as he fearlessly attacks any car that is in front of him. Hopefully Sauber can give him a car that will get him into the sharp end next season, or that he can line himself up for a top drive for 2012.

  • Comment number 4.

@2 LMAO, he is the weakest link.... Hopefully we will get a commentating team next year worthy of the sport and the Beeb.

  • Comment number 5.

    Agree with 2. and 4.

    Please please please replace Legard.

  • Comment number 6.

"...don't you think the bbc should replace Legard with Croft in the commentary team?"

Yep. Replace Legard with Steve Davies, if you like: he'd make fewer mistakes. [The Legend That Is] Murray Walker used to trip over his facts sometimes but usually he didn't interrupt his co-commentator, often in the middle of an interesting and relevant point, to spout something utterly unnecessary and often inaccurate. Poor Martin Brundle must have incredible patience!

I was thinking of keeping a tally of it this season, and if JL comes back for 2011 I very probably will.

  • Comment number 7.

@6 by my count Brundle came within an inch of punching Legard 3 times for interupting, twice for incorrect corrections and 3 times for just gibbering absolute garbage. Legard asked Brundle nearly a dozen questions that Legard then went on to try and answer himself (incorrectly most of the tie). Legard also interupted on countless other occasions with meaningless gibberish.... I can only remember 2 interuptions all season that were actually relevant or insightful... one of those times I am sure Brundle fell of his chair in amazement.

  • Comment number 8.

    Reference Legard

i complained bitterly to the ´óÏó´«Ã½ last year about him. i told them to compare google searches for complaints against Legard against complaints against MArtin Brundle ( he had 1 complaint - legard had hundreds)

´óÏó´«Ã½ replied they are sorry but cant make everyone happy. i replied saying everybodys miserable - but they just wont listen. if anyone knows how we can campaign, let me know

saying that this thread is about Murray Walker - all i can say is we miss you and your enthusiasm

maybe you can guest commentate at next years british grand prix

  • Comment number 9.

    @2 agreed

I am so glad I wasn't the only one who thought this, this season I watched most of the races online so I could have the five live commentary. I just had a revelation!!! I know why people say F1 is boring, its his voice, I knew their was something!

Well never have a Murray again but Corfty is close enough, get him on the main coverage please!!!

  • Comment number 10.

Cracking season, cracking review as always by the legend that is MW. Keep them coming in 2011 Murray!

I agree with alot of comments here that the weakest link here is Jonathan Legard. I never thought there would be a worse Live commentator than James Allen...but there is!

Like alot of people I ended up listening to Croft on 5 Live and sorely missed Brundles comments. They'd make an excellent commentating pair in my view.

  • Comment number 11.

Great review from a true legend... Amazing year for F1... Bring on next season...

Agree with getting rid of JL... Even get Karun Chandhok in if he isn't driving again next year... I enjoyed his commentary with Croft and Davidson in the free practice sessions...

  • Comment number 12.

Agree entirely with everyone else. JL ruins the grand prix.

Come on ´óÏó´«Ã½, Crofy on main coverage in 2011 (and hopefully in HD!).

  • Comment number 13.

Hi murray, this season was and probably will be the beat ever season, you as always have given us all entertainment post race and greatfully recieved.....bring on 2011.
i agree with all those who want rid of jonathon legard, it's so refreshing to know there is more than me that thinks his voice is the only thing thatcould make F1 boring.

crofty please or davidson.................all three even

  • Comment number 14.

Have to agree regards Legard he is woeful. Times many I've noticed somethings happened in the race and legard does his best to wait 10 minutes before mentioning it. He can't even tell the difference between the cars and drivers in them. Here's a hint Rosberg has got a YELLOW helmet Schumacher has got a RED one FCS.

  • Comment number 15.

Great coverage by everyone involved... Except one.... PLEASE GET RID OF Jonathon Legard.....

  • Comment number 16.

I'm not comfortable joining in with the chorus of demands for JL to be axed from his position as it must be awful for the poor guy to read these posts but, let's face it, he's not really up to the job. Where he should complement MB, he is little more than a distraction. Brundle is informed, technically astute and very entertaining, and, arguably, the finest commentator in any sport. Legard's constant interruptions for incorrect assertions or fatuous asides ("did you come here by camel, Martin?" - Abu Dhabi 2009) are increasingly irritating. Then there is the incessant deferential didnee?, wouldnee?, shouldnee? aimed at Brundle where he is seeking some sort of vindication of his drivel. Personally, it's his annoying mispronunciation of Abu Dhabi as "abba dabby" that winds me up as much as anything else. David Croft is far better in the role and, at the very least, gives the respect due to a world champion to pronounce Herr Vettel's name properly.
And while we're at it... Can we get rid of the pompous Eddie Jordan? Devil's advocacy is fine but not when it is gibberish as well. DC is articulate and knows his stuff through and through, Jake Humphrey has bloomed fantastically and Kravitz and McKenzie do terrific work on the pitlane. Anthony Davidson hasn't quite got there yet although it is only a matter of time. But, yes, there is a weakest link and he is ruining the show. Sorry Jonathan.

  • Comment number 17.

I really don't think Legard's as bad as people are making out, and certainly don't think he ruins the F1 as many are claiming.

One of the reasons Croft is on Five Live, and why the ´óÏó´«Ã½ would love to keep him there, is because he's so good at describing the action, painting pictures and keeping up the constant commentary required to cover the sport on radio and still convey the speed and thrill of the race. With the TV pictures, it's often enough to let them speak for themselves.

  • Comment number 18.

I agree that ledgard should go croft and bundle make a good team. I would have listen to the 5 live coverage but I would have missed martins comments too much like getting mugged into a corner and banzi move :) I really enjoyed the practise coverage croft and davidson work well together and if karun isn't racing it'd be great to hear him again.

  • Comment number 19.

Murray Walker, still a legend. Good review.

Re - Legard, I don't mind him that much, but EVERYONE I talk to dislikes him. At practise for Abu Dhabi we had Brundle join the excellent 5 Live team and the commentary was great. We need at least Crofty to get moved to the "big mike" and be calling F1 on ´óÏó´«Ã½ TV.

  • Comment number 20.

    Hello all.

I have to agree with greenlegend here. JL’s style (or rather lack of it) is somewhat irritating and he should probably be replaced for next year.

The ´óÏó´«Ã½â€™s coverage has been consistently fantastic. Jake has quickly become one of the finest sports anchors in the business, Martin continues to both entertain and inform (Martin Brundle chat show anyone?), David Coulthard (despite his distractingly tight white jeans) has offered some real insights into internal team politics and driver mentality and Kravitz & McKenzie are efficient and informative. Sometimes i think I enjoy the pre race build up more than the actual racing! GREAT STUFF.

Everybody here seems to be riled up about JL’s meandering irrelevance but nobody's mentioning Eddie?!!! Jordan rarely strings a coherent sentence together! It’s actually embarrassing! JH and DC clearly hate him, the team bosses obviously think he’s a joke and as far as I (and many others) can see he offers nothing to the coverage what-so-ever! WHY IS HE STILL ON THE TV!? If he’s not stuttering his way through another contradictory sentence, making a hopelessly unimportant point or slating Michael Schumacher, he’s getting in the way of the camera, or interrupting one of the others! I don’t know anybody who doesn’t want EJ off of the air, but it never seems to get raised here!

Does nobody feel the same way?

    Murray, the man, the legend.

  • Comment number 21.

Thanks Murray, a great round up of a great year.

Have to say I agree 100% with the calls to swap Legard for Crofty. I've spent the whole year shouting at his pointless ramblings, especially where he interrupts MB saying something relavent. The commentary on practice is light, and entertaining, add MB to that and you got a winner in my eyes.

(Legard is even worse than James Allen was over on ITV!)

  • Comment number 22.

    Abu Dhabi grand prix 2010:

Legard: "That's Rosberg coming round the inside of Kubica!"

Brundle: "Actually it's Kubica going round the outside of Rosberg..."

Hmph, in support of everyone else on this messageboard Legard cannot be allowed to get away with these all too frequent glaring errors.

  • Comment number 23.

Personally I find Eddie enjoyable, yeah he does make the occasional clangers and he does get carried away at times... but he also asks some really hard questions that put the team bosses on the spot. I really like getting his perspective as a former team boss and think it complements well alongside David's experience as a former driver. Just curious as to why people think he is a joke, he clearly knows and has a good relationship with the team boses and a lot of the senior people in the sport.

  • Comment number 24.

I agree with the comments regarding the commentary catastrophe that is JL. Last year I watched the coverage on the red button selecting the 5 live audio but this season that option was removed leaving 5 live over the In-car feed only. It would be good if Autie Beeb could restore the red button choice so it’s no longer necessary to mute the TV and have 5 live on the computer.

And to finish Top marks for the Free Practice coverage. Crofty, Davidson, & Chandhok plus numerous other guests, JYS, Hiedfeld. Excellent. More like that please.

  • Comment number 25.

Great stuff Murray. Always a pleasure seeing you. And i must side with all the people asking for legard to be replaced. He is starting to spoil watching the GPs for me. Id like to see Ben Edwards do it, he was great on SKY and Eurosport. 2nd choice would be crofty. As for EJ his great, plus the other two can control him ;) Legards just a lose cannon.

Thanks for a great review of 2010 F1 season and all this talk about Legard just shows that you are a hard act to follow.
I always tune into 5 live as I enjoy the informed commentary from Croft and Davidson although I really rate MB's measured and experienced input, JL grates too much. (MB must have the patience of a saint)
Like you I thought the title would be Alonso's although I was really wanting Webber to win.
I am warming to Vettel now (alright so I took the finger a bit personal at first) and 'unless I am very much mistaken' he will gain a bit of maturity with the mantle of World Champion, which will go towards completing him as a racer to the consternation of the rest of the grid.
It has been a year where all the top contenders have seen mistakes and misfortune cost dearly as the lead changed hands and hopes disappeared quicker than a Lib Dem Manifesto promise.
I'm sure I speak for many of those who have followed you through out the years when I say that you will always be known the Voice of Formula One and Motor sport, and I'm looking forward to your videos and hearing your news and views on what surely looks to be an even rivetting 2011 season.

Thanks again Murray I really can't wait for next season to start.

    best season ever?

why not just forget the racing, and on track action, seeing as everyone seems to love numbers and points and tables. why not just get all the drivers, put them in a computer simulation, based on car spec, add in a few random variables like engine failures, unforced mistakes etc. press fast forward, and see what the points are at the end?

can anyone tell me the last time a driver overtook another driver for the lead? be it during pitstops, or on track.

when was the last time we had 2 of the 5 contenders battling, closely, lap after lap, within maybe 1-2 seconds of each other?

this has been possibly the dullest season of F1 yet. back in the schumi days there was always him and 1 strong rival, in a top car, fighting tooth and nail, every grand prix. it was either him or alonso, him or hakinnen, him or villeneuve, even in 2005 we had raikonnen and alonso.
there was still a lack of overtaking, but AT LEAST they could follow each other closely, pushing each other, pressuring each other into a mistake, to the very last lap.

the cars this year can't even follow within 2 seconds of each other, if they try, their engines overheat, or the tyres fade away.
after the 1st pit stop, its time for engines off, everyone cruise to the finish! fuel conservation time! how exciting is that!

again - the dullest season Yet.

the changes for next year are utterly pointless too - KERS when most of the teams have it is redundant because if everyone has it, whats the point?

lets see how much closer they can follow after getting rid of that dreaded double diffuser, if it doesnt work, i'm in for another dull season. At least schumacher, kubica, and kobayashi seem to make any effort.
but hey, for you guys its fine, you've got your exciting championship table to look forward too, with all those numbers! have fun! heres a tip, why not just record the race, and fast foward to the end, that way you don't have to endure the racing and can just count your points!

  • Comment number 30.

and yes, to add to the woes, Johnathan Leggards commentary is absolutely appalling, the moment anything happens, like a car coming out the pits. a car going into the pits. a car moving. He will suddenly start shouting, spluttering his way through the english language. it sounds so forced and artificial.
He has absolutely no chemistry with Brundle, and constantly interrupts him.
Why on earth did the ´óÏó´«Ã½ not bring in Ben Edwards, Britains best commentator currently by FAR.

Leggard is the only person ruining the otherwise excellent ´óÏó´«Ã½ coverage.

  • Comment number 31.

As usual good review ta very much!

Hate to say it but JL, as nice a guy as I'm sure he is, is the reason I turn sound off for the race and whack on the music! No idea who could replace him.

The build up, forum etc are the best for years with, in my opinion, the best team for years, yes EJ can cause a cringe every now and again but I can live with that, bit of mild amusement. Really enjoyed the practice commentary's whilst unemployed especially the flow of guests, for which Chandhok deserves a special mention as he provided an excellent up to date and intelligent opinion.

  • Comment number 32.

    @8

Completely agree. ´óÏó´«Ã½ Coverage has been fantastic except for Legard. We should start a campaign to get him replaced.

  • Comment number 33.

    @29

Fernando Alonso took Seb Vettel for the lead of the Korean Grand Prix. If you want overtaking every lap watch NASCAR. I love F1 as it is.

  • Comment number 34.

Great review once again Murray, can't wait until the 2011 season begins. Also I can't help but find my self agreeing with everyones comments about removing JL. I do enjoy listening to him occasionally whenhe is on the ball, which is increasingly infrequently. He constantly interrupts Martin Brundle who is probably the finest commentator in the sport since Murray Walker himself, and his facts and links are increasingly less relevant and often completely wrong. However I don't think that the likes of Davidson and Crofty are right for the TV coverage as they are so fantastic on the radio commentary, and as previously mentioned they would not be right for the TV as they paint such a good picture in the minds eye. I do agree that JL is an increasingly weak link in the strongest all round coverage team in perhaps any sport in history, with Jake, DC and the slightly controversial Eddie Jordan fitting into their roles as if they were born to do it, and the pitlane team of Kravitz and McKenzie offering extremely insightful and useful information throughout the weekend, and then of course the five-live team who do an outstanding job. So all in all I regret to say that JL should probably go, and maby they should give Karun Chandhok a go as his commentary style, eloquent and knowledgeable, would compliment the great Martin Brundle, whilst remaining very enjoyable. Other than that, keep up the good work ´óÏó´«Ã½.

  • Comment number 35.

"One of the reasons Croft is on Five Live, and why the ´óÏó´«Ã½ would love to keep him there, is because he's so good at describing the action, painting pictures and keeping up the constant commentary required to cover the sport on radio and still convey the speed and thrill of the race. With the TV pictures, *it's often enough to let them speak for themselves*."

And how I wish sometimes that Mr Legard would do exactly that. He's a man of extreme's, he either sounds comatose (when not much is happening), or he goes to full revs with no warning whatsoever, even when there is nothing particularly exciting going on. But without doubt, the most annoying thing about him is when he gets on one, he'll ramble and ramble and ramble without even taking a breath. It'll last for minutes on end and you end up getting so sick of his voice you start screaming at inanimate objects for him to shut up.

It's like... FOR GODS SAKE MAN, TAKE A BREATH EVERY NOW AND AGAIN AND JUST BE QUIET FOR A FEW MOMENTS.

  • Comment number 36.

Have to agree with many others that J Legard is not a convincing F1 commentator, but then neither was Jake in his first season (he is now). The other weak link has to be Lee McK who seems to lack technical knowledge and frequently gaffs interviewing drivers. Eddie J has to stay though. On the odd occasion when he couldn't make it (volcanic ash?) I really missed him. At least you can be sure his opinion will be different to most other people's!

  • Comment number 37.

It's not just the fact that he gets on one, its the speed he talks at when he goes on one. Thats also a major part of the problem with Mr Legard.

  • Comment number 38.

In the interests of balance (after my Legard rant), I would also like to echo Mr Walker's comments about ´óÏó´«Ã½'s coverage this year (a certain commentator aside). It's important to be balanced with comments and the ´óÏó´«Ã½ coverage of the sport is otherwise excellent. All the different viewing (and listening) options we get over a race weekend is unsurpassed by anything that came before. In many respects, the Beeb is way out on-point with their actual coverage.

  • Comment number 39.

Ok Vettel won, but let's not forget about all the poles that he failed to turn into victories. In an age where overtaking is very difficult, surely the driver that starts first with the fastest car on the grid should be the victor every time?

  • Comment number 40.

    @ Stephen

as I CLEARLY stated in my post
'there was still a lack of overtaking, but AT LEAST they could follow each other closely,'

suggesting that I obviously don't watch F1 purely for overtaking and nothing else....
my post wasn't even about overtaking or lack of overtaking, at all.

  • Comment number 41.

    'Stephen wrote:
    @29

Fernando Alonso took Seb Vettel for the lead of the Korean Grand Prix.'

Erm..............Vettel retired with an engine failure whilst in the lead..............do you call this overtaking?

  • Comment number 42.

Nice review Murray, thanks, you are a legend. All the best.

I would prefer a different commentator to Legard on the TV feed, I find he talks too much but has very little to add, his endless rhetorical questions are maddening. He interrupts Brundle! This cannot stand. This season the red button has not offered a different commentary, which was frustrating, even though I love Martins comments, I was prepared to not hear them as long as I could get rid of JL's commentary.

With the multiple feeds now available to viewers through the ´óÏó´«Ã½, could we AT LEAST have a "Brundle Priority/Legard mute" facility where we get the 5Live feed but with all Brundle's comments over the top? I would prefer this before you go to HD, use the bandwidth wisely.

The rest of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ team I like to listen to. Eddie is sometimes hard to interpret, but I love that he brings a different viewpoint and a different energy, he deserves more respect from his fellow commentators.

PS 3D TV NEVER!! All sensible commentators and viewers know it's rubbish. It's expensive inferior snake oil, do not fall for it.

  • Comment number 43.

Thank you Mr Walker - very hard to disagree with anything you say!

As regards to the broadcast from ´óÏó´«Ã½ - I wish to join the impressed. It is GORGEOUS!! Thank you ´óÏó´«Ã½.
I have to say, I recently moved to Denmark, and I find myself streaming the broadcast EVERY TIME! - it is just a million miles ahead of German RTL, Danish Tv3Puls and anything else you can mention out there.

I was dubious about Mr Humphrey at first, but that guy is just excellent, and boy, did he learn and earn respect quick!
Mr Brundle is my favourite - love it! - he can do no wrong.
Mr Coulthard is getting there... you sometimes see him think on his feet, he does that astonishingly quick.
Mr Jordan is quirky and that's a bit of fun, if he was like that to work for - wow, THAT'S a challenge.
Mr Legard.. I am sorry, it just doesn't work for me. I am sure he is a brilliant guy and knows his stuff, but someone who has real chemistry with Mr Brundle would be preferred - the way Mr Croft and Mr Davidson has.. If Mr Croft and Mr Brundle has that chemistry, then fantastic.. but I'd rather ensure they get the right person to team up with Mr Brundle, than split up the fantastic duo Mr Croft and Mr Davidson.
Who knows, maybe Mr Brundle is not very easy to work with? - but like I said, he can do no wrong!

    Hehehe
The extremely grateful and enthusiastic viewer from Denmark

  • Comment number 44.

    @J-DOK83 39

Why didn't Mark Webber win then?

Vettel lost over 60 points with car failures and still took the title.

Webber lost.. well non apart from his own mistakes.

  • Comment number 45.

    Excellent F1 season this year!

It was one of the best ever F1 season
The introduction of new F1 rules, e.g. no refuelling during the race has make F1 a lot more exciting!

Excellent ´óÏó´«Ã½ Coverage of this year's F1 season!
I cannot wait to watch F1 next year in HD!

  • Comment number 46.

Great to see Murray. He's still a star and totally insightful and shows true heart in what he says about the sport he loves.

But as with everyone else, totally agree Legard is awful for the commentary. Meanwhile the Radio 5 commentary is utterly brilliant! The 5 coverage is excellent, and the use of modern racers, usually different ones depending on who's available is a real bonus also. The joke is the beeb know how bad Legard is, as in the highlights his mistakes get edited out usually. It's a complete mess and spoils all the races.

Best thing the beeb can do is give Brundle the grid walk, and make the commentary that from Radio 5.

  • Comment number 47.

Hi Murray, great review of the season, see you again in 15 weeks or so!

Would like to echo, though this seems to be a never ending echo, remarks of Jonathon Legards commentary. It just doesn't quite work and he makes too many mistakes without admitting them. However I do enjoy his Friday column which is usually insightful and interesting. Hes a good journalist, just not a good commentator, and hence a change in the latter department really is needed.
Oh also I find Eddie Jordan's quirky persona hilarious, and he can get away with it because, in the end, hes been in the sport 2 decades and knows what hes talking about, even if often it doesnt make too much sense when he says it!

  • Comment number 50.

    Great season - 2 points

    1) Why build a beautiful track in the desert for the finale, and design it so that the cars that represent the pinnacle of motorsport cant overtake? Same point re hungary - exactly why do we go there?

    2) Legard sounds like he commentating on the grand nationale. "and here's "grommety fisher" entering the last now"... My father lives in the states (he is British) and watched a race over here for the first time since the beeb took over... when JL started he looked over at me with his mouth open....

Murray Walker, what a legend. His enthusiasm is still as infectious as it ever was. Would be class to have a Murray & Martin special commentating British Grand Prix next year. just like good ole days!! Don't like to be disrespectful but Johnathan Legard needs to be replaced. He'd probably be good on radio on his own or something, just doesn't gel with Martin as every man & his dog as already stated. Eddie & DC are completely opposite of each other with their insights & observation which is a good mix & Eddie does ask the tough questions. Jake does good job in keeping the peace & Martin is some kind of genius for not having us all mute the tv & listen to 5live commentary.

  • Comment number 54.

What's Murray's video blog got to do with Jonathan Legard?

If you have something to say about Legard say it on his own blog rather than on Murray's.

Great video Murray, by the way.

  • Comment number 55.

@Gfasulo - Any comments criticising legard are deleted from his blog for 'breaking the rules', I am surprised that the Beeb have finally let people vent their frustrations over this matter.

  • Comment number 56.

Great review Murry as always! Would be great to see/hear more of you in the live broadcasting... Silverstone perhaps?

So yeh I agree with pretty much EVERY OTHER F1 FAN then when I say Jonathan Legard needs to go, everyone's comments are all spot on so I needn't repeat them.

For anyone criticizing Eddie Jordan, you people need to look past his unprofessional broadcasting skills, because once you do you see exactly why the ´óÏó´«Ã½ have him on.... HE IS PRICELESS!!! He provides an insight into teams that only he would dare divulge on live TV, not to mention he is loved by every other tom dick and harry in the paddock.... anyone notice how many times he is saying hi as the 3 of them are walking around?! And his chemistry with DC this year has taken off and is a joy to watch.

As @ 56 So yeh I agree with pretty much EVERY OTHER F1 FAN then when I say Jonathan Legard needs to go, everyone's comments are all spot on so I needn't repeat them.

I will just have to add that I was willing to give Jonathan a chance but I still get the feeling I am listening to a horse race, we were introduced to 'and its Button from Alonso from Massa' I keep waiting for 'He's won by a head' or 'Its a photo finish' (I wish)

Wow - amazing to see the level of consensus on this page (despite it having nothing to do with Murray's video), and must also agree fully that Legard is useless. I am a keen fan but do not have the technical knowledge of people like Brundle, Davidson or Chandok, and so welcome their explanations. However, I feel I could do a much better job than Legard, who makes numerous mistakes every race, which combined with his boring moments/moments of fake enthusiasm makes him immensely irritating. His low point for me this year came in Korea, when he spent an entire lap talking about Hamilton keeping Rosberg at bay, without realising that he had already been overtaken.

Needless to say, Crofty is a legend. The guy is always interesting, funny, and to the point, but as a previous poster observed, he is so good that I can understand the ´óÏó´«Ã½ not removing him from radio as his descriptions are more badly needed there.

If Chandok does not get a drive next year then I think the ´óÏó´«Ã½ should do everything they can to make him a peermanent fixture. He is an F1 encyclopeadia, along with being both concise and witty. With the amazing Chandok, the ever interesting Anthony Davidson, and the ever reliable Crofty, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ have a plethora of choices for someone to replace the dullard Legard.

Come on ´óÏó´«Ã½, your F1 commentary team would be second to none if you could replace Legard with one of your many other excellent commentators. Maurice Hamilton is always good enough on the radio if there are concerns about moving Croft away from that format, and I'm sure there would also be consensus here that James Allen is better than Legard.

Come on ´óÏó´«Ã½, not another Season of Legard.

(the youtube Legard versus Crofty post couldn't sum it up any better)

If everyone is so against Jonathan Legard, watch the races online or on the red button and you can have whichever commentary you want. Thanks for all your posts this year murray, very informative and entertaining as we have come to expect from yourself. Roll on 2011!

@60 - Not really an option for me as I only have the terrestrial channels so no red button and I would rather watch on my nice 38" telly than my 19" monitor... and regardless I would be loath to give up listening to Brundle as he always has something interesting to say when not being interrupted by the idiot.

At the end of the day I pay my license fee and I assume the rest of the commentors do as well, so why shouldn't our views be heard? Why should we have to put up with a boring know nothing who drones on endlessly as the main commentator of a sport we love.... If the beeb really wants to justify the money it spends covering this sport (and its attempts to entice new viewers/fans) it beggars my belief why the main voice of the sport is such a dullard.

@51, thanks for the complaint link, only took a minute.

If someone could develop some software that sensed Legard was speaking, and switched to the audio to 5 live. nearly perfect.

Hoepfully the ´óÏó´«Ã½ can move him to a different sport and we can get someone that comes closer to Murray's quality!

I'm afraid I have to agree with everyone in the comments. Legard has had 2 years to adapt TV coverage and it hasn't worked. He has no balance what so ever, get's over excited when he doesn't need too and is painfully boring when things are slow.

Charlie Cox, Ben Edwards or James Allen would be a perfect replacement, lets bring some real F1 enthusiasm back to the commentary box.

thanks for the link, i've put in a formal complaint, i advise as many people as possible do the same so the ´óÏó´«Ã½ will notice and hopefully replace him!

    @41

Yes I do. Since reliability is part of the game. The overtake happened on the track so it meets the criteria of your question. Really wish people would quit complaining about the lack of overtaking in F1. F1 is F1 and there hasnt been an era where there has been loads of overtaking.

If overtaking was easy then it wouldnt mean anything when you overtook someone.

@65 - I agree with you, but I do think more needs to be done to enable cars to run closer behind the car infront to give the attacking drivers the chance to overtake. The idea of having a push to pass button is something that I do feel will devalue the sport.

How you can employ someone(JL) that states a driver has lost their front wing, is corrected by their colleague that it is in fact the drivers rear wing, then goes on to state "well it's one of the wings". The pictures were very clear and even to my untrained eye I could tell the difference.

This was just the tip of the ice-berg. He was also very biased towards Vettel. Evidenced by the last race where LH put in faster laps than Vettel, it barely registered a mention but previous to this he was going mental about what a "wonderous" fastest lap he has put in.

    Croft would be miles better.

Well the name said it all, Murray Walker, and naturally I had to read on. I think that was the best way to some up an epic Formula 1 season. I have watched Formula 1 ever since Damon hill won his last title at the Japanese gp in '96. I think there is one 'complete' driver in Formula 1, Fernando Alonso. I think he will be going all guns blazing to get his 3rd world title next year. We Love you Murray!!!

I think it will remain Legard/Brundle as the man commentary next year.
But would be nice to see Crofty on the Race day show aswell

Blue flags should be scrapped in F1 and driver's made to fight their way past the 'backmarkers' everyone wants to see exiting racing and this would definately do it! :)

@footprint11. Many thanks for the link. I've sent my complaint in. Let's hope others do too.
