Friday's running order
We're not really getting our timing together today (blame it on the tour we've just had of the 'studio and office of the future' - it's certainly a bit more inspiring than our cosy little room). We talked through a lot of options earlier in the meeting and settled on two stories... Or to be exact one story, and one issue.
Should women dress more modestly?
Yesterday we devoted almost half of the programme to comments made by Australia's most senior Muslim cleric who refered to women who don't wear a headscarf as 'uncovered meat'. He went on to suggest that if women dress in certain ways then if they are attacked, it is the fault of their clothes (or lack of them) rather than the men carrying out the attack. Here's many of you responded to.
Our discussion last night took a turn to the heated when Rick from Brisbane many an incendiary call saying that the Sheikh has chosen the wrong words to communicate the right message. He talked about the moral decay of Western society and how women do have some responsibility if they are attacked while not dressing in a 'holistic' (Rick's word) way. You responded in great numbers to his comments so we'll discuss them tonight....
WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Johannesburg International Airport is to change its name to .... much to the delight of some of you in South Africa and the frustrations of others. Can you understand why the name has been changed? Is it right and proper that ANC heroes like are slauted in this way? If you're not in South Africa, has a place or a building or an airport in your country had its name changed? Tell us if you cared, and if you did why?
Speak to you later.
