Nothing ever goes right for Northern pensioner Alf. He is all alone, and his attempts to find company are disasterous. He doesn't have much luck with the ladies - one courtship was thwarted by an evacuating bird, another with an incident with the lady's cat.
Alf narrowly missed winning the lottery, has been electrocuted by his own house and when he bought a parrot for company, it incessantly insulted him.
