About Hands on Nature

Chris PackhamHands on Nature returns for a repeat series on 大象传媒 TWO the week of Monday 12 February and Monday 19 February.

All programmes will be broadcast at 1.45pm on 大象传媒 Two on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Shot in beautiful locations around the country, the series offers tips on where to go to spot some of the most rare and most interesting animals, birds, trees and flowers, how to identify them, and how species survive and thrive in different habitats.

Providing the backdrop are some spectacular landscapes, across mountain, seaside, lake and forest – and the very best of what the UK countryside has to offer.

The programme's primary aim is to encourage viewers to get out, explore and discover nature for themselves.

Presenter Chris Packham and his team of three experts – earth scientist Janet Sumner, zoologist Sanjida O'Connell and botanist Mike Dilger - go swimming with seals off the Isles of Scilly, get up close and personal with pine martens in Scotland, and go in search of a wide variety of wildlife including dragonflies, crayfish, puffins, barn owls, badgers, butterflies and bats.

During the course of the series, they visit nature hot spots as diverse as the Cairngorms, the island of Skomer off the Welsh coast, Pocklington Canal in the Yorkshire Wolds, the New Forest, Brecon Beacons, the Lake District and Somerset Levels.

The programme is a 'user's guide' to what's in your own back yard and provides a practical guide to what you can do, see and learn.

Real Media

What do I need to hear AV clips
In order to hear sound or view a video clip on our site you will need to have a version of the RealPlayer. This is plug-in application can be downloaded from . You should download the latest free Basic Beta 8 player as this is suitable for playing our Audio and Video content. The links to the free player can be found in the middle of the Real.com page. You can find further details on our site.

Why can't I use my Windows Media Player
When the 大象传媒 began publishing audio and video content Real Media was the most secure form of streaming. Due to copyright issues related to our content we found this to be the most suitable platform and, at the time, Microsoft supported this. Unfortunately they withdrew their support for Real Media and as a consequence many of the later versions of the Windows Players will not play our clips. This may change in the future. You will find that many of the World Service clips are also streamed for the Windows Player.

I keep getting 'No DNS entry'
It is more than likely that your RealPlayer is set up incorrectly. Please check the connection and proxy settings in preferences (you will find these in the view drop down menu). You will need to select the setting appropriate for your connection to the internet. If you are behind a firewall (i.e. part of an office network) then you will need to connect to the clips via a proxy server. We would advise that you contact you IT department for further details.
