This Home Guard handbook belonged to John Galloway's uncle — Leslie Foster who was from Grinshill in Shrewsbury.

The cover of the book reads:

'HOME GUARD - A handbook for the L.D.V By John Brophy — Parachute troops, Anti-tank Warfare, Observation and Reporting, The Rifle, The Bren Gun, The Lewis Gun, The Thompson Sun, Grenades an ‘Molotoffs’, Road-blocks, Ambushes, Street Fighting, ETC, ETC.

Hodder & Stoughton'

It includes lots of useful information, including hints and tips for spotting enemy planes, how to aim accurately and various diagrams showing how to use weapons such as a bayonet.

This photograph was submitted to the People’s War site by Becky Barugh of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Shropshire CSV Action Desk on behalf of John Galloway who very kindly shared it with us. It has been added to the site with his permission and Mr Galloway fully understands the site's terms and conditions.
