I can also remember the ‘Home Guard’ who were training nearby. They were very similar to those portrayed in Dad’s Army!
They had no weapons to train with so they had make-shift weapons. I remember seeing them crawling around and hiding behind bushes in the local parks.
Being a child I found it quite amusing, but it was a deadly serious situation really.
