We had two ATS girls billeted in the house. They stayed with us for a couple of years or so.
I remember the knock on the door the night they arrived. Somebody at the door said 鈥淚鈥檝e got two girls out here, can you give them accommodation?鈥 That鈥檚 how it was done. My Mother said 鈥淵es, we鈥檝e got a spare bedroom鈥 and that was that.
We also had evacuees coming to Nottingham from London. I was quite sweet on of the girls (even at that age!) 鈥 Her name was Pamela. They joined our class at school and became part of our community as they were there at least a couple of years.
