At the end of the War we had all the street parties. I remember everyone being happy and going mad. Like Alvin said - it’s amazing where the food came from as we didn’t see a lot of food in those days. I think that in some respects we as children might have been helped by rationing as all of the junk-food — the sweets and things weren’t available, so we just had to eat raw carrots and things like that — a much healthier option.
Sweets were on ration until the early 1050’s, it wasn’t an overnight thing that they came back. I was working when they became available — so 1951, 1952.
