This story was submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer on behalf of George and has been added to this site with his permission. George fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

In 1940, during an air raid, a provision's factory in Peckham was bombed. The adjoining houses were showered with tins of corn beef and salmon. At that point in time, the majority of people were law abiding. People were rather frightened of the police, but as rationing was in force, nothing was mentioned about the whole affair. Suffice to say, over the next few weeks, a lot of people started to put on a lot of extra weight, believing that least said, soonest mended.

Posted on: 20 May 2005 by TED DANN

Hi George,
read your item with great interest it sounds identical with my story, if you input LONDON BLITZ in the search ww2 window the list that appears contains several items with the same title, the one to click on is A3270276 you may have to scan to the second page, I remember this night very well, the Grocer was in Frankton road peckham, PALMERS.
After perusing this site, try inputting Peckham in the search window
your item comes up in this listing, there are a few peckham incidents which may be of interest to you.
Thank's for your entry.
Regards,
Ted Dann.
