We went to stay with my Grandmother in Fareham who lived in a little cottage in the High Street.

We were out shopping one day when we heard an engine noise above our heads. Suddenly it cut out.

My Mother threw me in the gutter and fell on top of me. My Mother told me it was the first V1 rocket sent over by the Germans to bomb England.

It landed over the hill somewhere and Winston Churchill came down to investigate.
