I was born between VE day and VJ day, so although my involvement in WW2 was very limited, I remember the aftermath very well as a child. However, my real interest in both wars began when I started to research my family tree. I found that both of my grandfathers had served in France in WW1, both were injured but not killed.
My father was in a reserved occupation, so both he and my mother lived through the London blitz. My mother-in -law served in the land army. My father-in-law was with the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLIs) even though he was from Lancashire. He was in France twice, first with the BEF, then on D-day, landing with the Canadians and fighting through to Germany.
I will recount some of their stories on this site.
Personally, I am married and have 2 children from a previous marriage. I was bon in London but now live happily in Birmingham. I have a Doctorate in microbial ecology. I am now semi-retired but worked most of my life in research posts in a number of subject areas. I am a private pilot and have a broad interest in aviation.
