The contents of my contribution stems from the title I have chosen. It is really written to memorialise those many people in the war who devoted their lives to the welfare and salvation of others, along of course with that of their own families.
It makes one humble to think of the devotion and determination to strive for the good of all under very difficult circumstances. It is a salutary lesson to the present generation, to learn that those souls of a previous generation were prepared to sacrifice their lives for the greater benefit of mankind.
