My name is Diane and I am the middle child of three in our family. My sister Pam, brother David and me, grew up listening to Dad recount the many tales of his war-time experiences; not only during his RAF service but also as an evacuee in the Kent countryside.
I am interested in writing and although I only discovered this site in November 2005, I thought submitting contributions to the People's War Archive had a 3 fold benefit: my dad, the Archive and me.
Primarily, in view of my dad's ill-health, it seemed to me this might provide an interest to keep his spirits up and generate a positive energy for him. In reality, this has been particularly beneficial because his health deteriorated further as christmas approached. Since the 3rd January he has been in hospital and he has received a further course of treatment. Thankfully he is making good progress. Secondly, I envisaged these stories would help enhance the Archive particularly given the photographs with specific dates and annotations. Hopefully future generations will have an enriched source of historical data to access. And finally, this opportunity has given me a reason to practise my writing skills.
