I have posted the following pieces about Gwen Brockway as she has been writing diaries for many years. My brother Clive got on to her to write her life story as she has had many things happen to her throughout her 84 years, just as thousands of people of that age have. What took place during the Second World War as with any other conflict changes the future for all involved. It is now our history and important to remember, not to be sad, but for our tomorrow. If more people study our social and military history maybe there can be more understanding and in an ideal world remove racial, cultural and religious hatred so often brought about because a small number of people have a greed for power or money. How do so few who become so powerful cause terror and pain to people on such a large scale?
Gwen would not consider herself to be extraordinary, as I am sure none of those who were part of the conflict of 1939-1945 would. But they all were, every person involved. So many died, but so many were saved by Britain's involvement.
Gwen still meets up with other land army girls at the cenotaph each year. Not to glorify their involvement, it's more of a coming togther of different women from different backgronds with one thing in common from the past, as to the future, that's in our hands; war is fundementally wrong.
