It's about the death of an innocent Muslim man who's mistaken for a terrorist by the Metropolitan Police. Listen to an interview with one of the stars of the film, Naseeruddin Shah... During the 1980s, many films were made that focused on the Cold War. Now in this day and age, it seems more directors and actors are producing films about the current political climate. Films such as 'Syriana', 'The Kite Runner' and 'The Road to Guantanamo' have been box office successes, but have also tried to raise questions in their audiences' minds. In August 2008 a new film called 'Shoot on Sight' is being released, starring Greta Scacchi, Brian Cox, Sadie Frost and Bollywood star Naseeruddin Shah. Help playing audio/video 'Shoot on Sight' is set to push the boundaries even more, charting the death of an innocent Muslim man who's mistaken for a terrorist by the Metropolitan Police. Naseeruddin plays an Asian police officer from Scotland Yard who is put in charge of the investigation into the man's death. Giving "voice to the moderate Muslim"He says the film deals with issues such as corruption in high places and is an exciting thriller. However it also has an important message:
"It gives voice to the opinion of the moderate Muslim, which is something that has rarely been done. "The moderate Muslim has kept quiet for far too long I believe, and it's time he raised his voice. "It has gone on too long that Islam is represented by a lot of rabid preachers who interpret the teaching of the Qur'an according to their own convenience, and probably under political manipulation as well." But despite this, Naseeruddin says that acceptance of Muslims and other Asian people has increased. "Many many grey areas"He doesn't think that 'Shoot on Sight' has the power to change opinions among those who already hold strong beliefs, but he hopes that it will give the audience something to think about: "A film cannot set out to preach and convert, a film can only set out to represent truthfully, and I think that's what this film does... "I hope the audience leaves the [movie] theatre feeling that this situation is a little more complex than what they thought it was. "There is no black and white here, there are many many grey areas in this whole thing." last updated: 25/07/2008 at 12:25 SEE ALSOYou are in: Leicester > Entertainment > Theatre and Arts > Features > Shoot on Sight
