Help playing audio/video The Carlton Catholic Club was built in 1958, next to the parish church The Sacred Heart. The parish priest at the time wanted to build a social centre for the local catholic community in Carlton. The parish bought four cottages situated next to the church and demolished them to make room for the club building. Half centuryFrank became a member of the club 50 years ago, shortly after it opened its doors, and has been a regular ever since. "I got married in 1960, and from that time onwards my wife used to come, we came every week. "We took our children when they arrived and now our children take their children." Frank loves the club because it's a safe place where people look out for each other. The futureHowever due to the recent credit crunch, the club is in danger of closing. "I think if it closed it would be especially bad for our community."
