Selectadisc began trading as a market stall in 1966. The stall soon turned into a shop and it wasn't long before Selectadisc reached iconic status as one of Nottingham's music hotspots. Shop front Charlie Gardiner visited the music mecca religiously to buy new and unheard of music. When he was offered the chance to work there he jumped at it. He spent three years listening to and surrounded by music every day. "It had that very much underground feel. Unpolished. "People felt as if they could hang out here. It was a shop for the local community." Charlie Gardiner But music downloads proved the shop's downfall. In March 2009 it closed. "It was so horrible to see the decline. It's a real shame."
Help playing audio/video Charlie says he lost more than his job when the shop shut its door for the last time. last updated: 03/08/2009 at 11:55 SEE ALSOYou are in: Nottingham > People > Your stories > Selectadisc-ing the memories About 'My Notts'Nottinghamshire is full of beautiful locations that are rightly know the world over.
