大象传媒 Radio has a record share of 53.5% of radio listening compared with Commercial Radio's 44.5% according to figures released by RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research) today (Thursday 8 May 2003).

The figures - which cover the period 6 January to 3 March 2003 - also show the 大象传媒 to have a reach of 33.27 million, adding over half a million listeners on last quarter and over 400,000 year on year.

Commercial Radio has a reach of 32.11million.

This quarter is the first to report official UK figures for the 大象传媒 World Service which recorded 1.4 million listeners tuning in for its unique provision of international news and analysis.

The 大象传媒 Asian Network was also added to the survey across the UK to monitor listeners outside of its traditional TSA (total service area) and it recorded a reach of 433,000 as compared with its analogue TSA measurement of 150,000.

Jenny Abramsky, the 大象传媒's Director of Radio & Music, said: "Today's figures show that the whole industry goes from strength to strength with more people listening to radio.

"I'm particularly pleased with the first national figures for the 大象传媒 Asian Network.

"These figures and those of other newly recorded services show how significant listening through television and the internet has become, as RAJAR has been revealing for some time."

The quarter included significant schedule changes on some of the national networks.

Nicky Campbell and Victoria Derbyshire took over Breakfast on Radio Five Live and showed an increase in the audience (up a quarter of a million on the year, 50,000 on the quarter).

On Radio 2 Jeremy Vine held the audience steady in the slot previously held by Sir Jimmy Young.

On Radio 1 the newly launched Chart Show hosted by Wes Butters saw its audience grow by over 100,000 listeners to 2.7 million, an increase of 2.6% in terms of share.

Of the 大象传媒's national networks Radio 4 has an outstanding quarter with a record reach of over 10 million (10.03) compared with 9.95 last year and 9.80 last quarter.

The station has a share of 11.8%, up on the year and quarter.

The network posted increases across the schedule with The Archers and Woman's Hour both reporting record reach figures, 4.93 million and 2.86 million respectively.

The weekday slots between 8.00 and 10.00pm perform particularly well.

大象传媒 Local and National services also had outstanding figures with a record reach of 11.1 million and a share of 11.5%, up on the year and the quarter.

大象传媒 London 94.9 has a record reach of 437,000 and 大象传媒 Radio Wales topped half a million listeners for the first time.

Of the other 大象传媒 Network services, Radio 1 has shown a slight fall in listeners aged over 15 and a growth in younger listeners.

Reach among the 15+ is 10.34million, slightly down on the year (10.54 million) and the quarter (10.51million).

The 4+ audience is 12.85 million, up on the year (12.82 million) and the quarter (12.67 million).

Radio 1's share stands at 7.9%, down on the year (8.4%) and the quarter (8.4%). Share of the 4+ audience is 8.4%.

Radio 2 has a steady reach of 13.23 million, down on last quarter's record 13.26 million but up on last year's 12.90 million.

Share is stable at 15.7%. Terry Wogan scaled new heights with a record reach of 7.86 million.

Radio 3's reach is stable at 2.10 million and its share is 1.1%, slightly down on the 1.2% posted last year and last quarter.

Radio Five Live has a reach of 6.42million, its third highest, stable on last year (6.44 million) and up slightly on last quarter (6.27 million).
