Described by Sir Peter Hall as one of the great English classical actresses, Geraldine James has starred in TV dramas as varied as Band of Gold, The Jewel in the Crown and White Teeth.

Nominated three times for a Bafta award, Geraldine was most recently seen in ITV drama Jane Hall; Andrew Davies' adaptation of Anthony Trollope's He Knew He Was Right; and as Mrs Pincher in Little Britain.

She has also appeared in films including The Calendar Girls; Bill Murray comedy The Man Who Knew Too Little; and The Tall Guy.

Geraldine received her first Bafta nomination in 1985 for her role as Sarah Layton in the acclaimed ITV drama, The Jewel in the Crown.

In the same year she starred with George Cole and David Suchet in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ adaptation of Tom Sharpe's comic novel, Blott on the Landscape.

Her two other Bafta nominations came for Band of Gold and The Sins, a mini-series about the seven deadly sins, co-starring Pete Postlethwaite.
