Christmas Rent-a-Greg: Surprises for Radio 1 listeners

is back for Christmas, with Greg James spending a week racing around the UK to surprise Radio 1 listeners with a little help or a bit of a treat.

But unlike previous Rent-a-Gregs, this one is a little different. As part of Radio 1's campaign, which has run throughout 2017, Greg will be surprising people as a thank you from their friends or family.

"My Mind & Me is the best campaign Radio 1 has ever done," says Greg.

It's so important that people try and normalise talking about their problems

"It's so important that people try and normalise talking about their problems a bit more.

"It could be a small thing but actually it makes people think it's OK to say 'I'm not feeling alright at the moment. I feel a bit down.'"

Many of the Radio 1 DJs are involved with the 2017 Christmas Rent-a-Greg and considering what Greg got up to in this summer's edition, everyone involved (including the listeners) is in for some truly bizarre experiences.

"We dropped off a listener to the airport once for his first lads' holiday, ," says Greg about previous Rent-A-Gregs.

"We helped a listener move house, we DJed at a wedding - I took Dev to a wedding in Rugby, we were on a stage in a village hall, the curtains opened and we were stood there.

"We did a tour of London for someone's parents."

So, without further ado, here's what went down during the first Christmas Rent-a-Greg...

Is this the most magical Rent-A-Greg of all time?

Rhetorical question. Yes, yes it is!

When one brother wanted to make sure his sister knew how amazing she was after a tricky year, Rent-a-Greg made it happen.

Facilitated by Grimmy, pizza galore and a party bus kitted out with karaoke, Rosa and her pals were picked up from school and driven to the Radio 1 studio where they met one of their Strictly idols. No biggie! Listen and find out what happened...

On the second day, Greg basically saved Christmas (dinner)...

Tom Kerridge is here to save Christmas dinner on Rent-A-Greg!

When Christmas dinner duties fall on you, who better to train you up for the big day?

Day two of Rent-a-Greg and Scott and Chris call on their culinary friend Tom Kerridge (casual!) to help train a brother and sister - Emily and Alex - who need to make Christmas dinner a success for their mum.

"You seem like such a kind, beautiful person. It's so important to be amazing to other people but you have to be good to yourself as well."
Sam Smith

Clara invited her down to the Live Lounge and gave her a tour of Radio 1 towers. She had a front row seat for James Arthur and even received a special message from Sam Smith.
