How Elizabeth I made the Protestant religion secure in England
How the Spanish Armada, and the hostility of Catholic powers in Europe generally, helped make the Protestant religion secure in England. Elizabeth I's propaganda machine linked Protestantism and patriotism inextricably. The invasion of the Spanish Armada was in this way a gift to the Queen as well as a danger. By the end of Elizabeth's reign, Protestantism was securely in place. It had taken just two generations for this to happen.
