He’s worked as a baker doing regular night shifts for the last 25 years and it is starting to affect the quality of his sleep and his family’s sleep.

A typical working week for Chris would be – Monday 8am – 4pm; Tuesday 11am – 8pm; Wednesday day off; Thursday 3am – 11am; Friday day off; Saturday 3am – 11am; Sunday 3am – 11am. Sometimes he can cope, other times he feels upside down. He can feel normal one minute and then left confused, and wondering what day of the week it is, the next.

Chris and his partner, Charlotte, have been living together now for a year and Charlotte cannot remember the last time they both simultaneously had a good night's sleep in the same bed, at the same time, and worries it’s causing issues with their relationship as they are both tired and grumpy.

Result

Jason and Kirstie found Chris a complex and perplexing case. By improving the environment in which he slept they improved the quality of his sleep and also helped him cope with his shift patterns by introducing a light box - effectively helping him ‘reset’ his body clock as his sleep times changed. But they realised his snoring was a major factor in his poor quality sleep because his partner kept waking him up.

A made to measure mouthguard helped improve his breathing and subsequently reduced the disruptive snoring- the results were successful enough that Chris and Charlotte are now engaged.
