Known across Holby for her no nonsense attitude (and that’s putting it nicely) Jan is the Mother Hen of the Ambulance Service. Firm and sometimes fair, once you’ve proved yourself to Jan, you can bet she will back you to the ends of the earth. Jan knows people make mistakes, but all that matters to her is if you did your best.
Saying that, all these years in the service have made her quite cynical and she’s quick to raise an eyebrow at a flimsy cover-up story or some joker trying to pull the wool over her eyes. Jan trusts her gut instincts; she can diagnose a heart attack a mile off but also knows when someone just needs a strong cup of tea.
Although she has no problem keeping up with the technological advances in the service, she strongly believes that all the box ticking and paperwork is the root cause of why the NHS is struggling. In her day, things were easier, people had respect for the service and it worries her to see the pressure her team are under…
