Edward and Diana
Edward, the middle Cazalet brother and his wife Diana.
Edward (Pip Torrens)
Handsome Edward is the middle Cazalet brother. Having fought bravely in WW1, Edward returned a hero, happy to take up his position in the family firm, which allowed him a lot of freedom to conduct ilicit affairs. But when he met Diana, he fell in love and eventually left his wife, Villy. However, his marriage to Diana has not brought him the happiness he expected. Diana was a pliant mistress but he finds her a demanding wife and Edward does not have the guts to stand up to her, opting too often for a quiet life and indulging her, something he never had to do with Villy. Edward can also see that the easy ways of his youth are now a thing of the past; money is tight and the family business in need of reform before it鈥檚 too late.
Diana (Emily Joyce)
Diana spent a long time as Edward鈥檚 mistress enduring loneliness and disappointment. After her husband Angus was killed in the war Diana had very little money and had to bring up her children, including at least one by Edward in a tiny rundown cottage. Now she and Edward are married Diana is determined to put the privations of her past behind her: a large house, holidays abroad, the best schools for the children can all be hers and she wants to savour them all. The fact that she doesn鈥檛 really get on with the extended Cazalet family, with their emphasis on holidays at Home Place with all the children, has led to tensions between her and Edward.
