Spoon
Spoon formed in Austin, Texas in 1994 when Britt Daniel(vocals/guitar) hooked up with Jim Eno on drums.
Named after a song by kraut-rockers Can, the duo started out experimenting with minimal rhythmic guitar structures that would become their trademark sound.
Their first album, 'Telephono', saw the light of day two years later on Matador. After touring with Pavement, Guided by Voices and Silkworm among others, Spoon signed a short-lived deal to a major label, Elektra to release their second album, 1998's 'A Series of Sneaks'.
After '...Sneaks' the band parted company with Elektra and released 'The Agony of Falffitte' in 1999, followed by 'The Love Ways EP' in 2000 on Merge Records.
Their excellent third album 'Girls Can Tell' came out in 2001 and brought the band critical acclaim and recruited them a dedicated fan-base along the way.
A year later they released 'Kill The Moonlight' an album described by some as 'musically adventurous' but thrilling to listen to nonetheless.
Three years on they've released perhaps their most ambitious album yet in 2005's darker, atmospheric, 'Gimme Fiction'. So far this year they've toured the album supporting New York moodsters Interpol across Europe.
"This is one of the most life-affirming rock and roll recordings you can allow into your skull," reckons the band's label, Matador.
