When you think of all the unsuitable things a man could be in love with, basalt columns seem eminently sensible!

Amazing pictures, MM! Are those columns like the ones in Giant's Causeway?

Carol, yes sad about Rick Wright - I have always been a big Floyd fan - they really were a very inventive group. One of my favourite PF pieces is the start to "Shine on you crazy diamond" with the broad sweep of synthesiser minor chords and Gilmores immaculately played guitar over the top. One of the most lyrical pieces of music ever put together in the modern age. Which brings me to a mountaiman moment! Years ago, prob late 70s, there was a program on 大象传媒 Scotland (I think) about ski touring across the highlands, following the route of the "Haute Route Ecossaise" The filming of these guys skiing was accompanied by this particular PF piece -it was magical! This particular ski trip is notoriously difficult to do - getting the weather right is a major challenge as it takes several days to complete. In 1978 Mike Taylor and David Grieve did it, and I *think* this is what was in the documentary. The music fitted the ski scenes perfectly. Incidentally, there is another famous PF moment involving adventure sport -the film "Crystal Voyager" has the PF tune "Echoes" as the soundtrack and reaches a climax where a surfer surfs through a tunnel of water as the waves crash in. Superbly atmospheric. Rick Wright, like the rest of the PF team was a musical genius. RIP. Bye the way, if anyone from the 大象传媒 is reading this and knows about that Ski-touring film, I'd love to know more about it. And see it again!!!! MM
