Our own we bit of paradise

Our CroftSo this is us. Our mini mansion upon the isle of Fair Isle. We moved here last August amidst a barrage of press interest, eventually were allowed to settle in & love where we are.

My studio has 2 rooms, one for storage, the other , the huge well lit one, combines the wet area for dyeing etc and the sewing/assembly area, no lack of space in this house.

I've seen you in the papers and I think you did a radio interview too. Glad you are enjoying it. The house looks lovely - so much space!

Alix, I think half the world saw me in the paper. The house is amazing, & we really love being here.

I'm with scallowawife...tell us more...you lucky thing to have a studio instead of a spare room. And running water too...and all that space...and other nice creative people around and about. Your terracotta hoose is stunning... Fridarey Folk...mmmmmmmm.

Actually, I've looked from time to time to see if you'd start blogging. What a sad City dweller I am. Seriously, I really admire what you've done, not only making the change but making it work too. Much as I hate lots of things about City life, I have to admit that it's made me so lazy that I'd really miss my conveniences. Still it's nice to dream. Do you see any interesting wildlife passing by?

Terracotta? It's just paint, I think. If you want to see stucco/adobe houses, come to Nuevo Mexico. Bienvenidos. # Good luck. Are you designing and producing new wares?

Do you ever not, more like!

Hey Fair Isle, a big IB welcome to you. I just know you're going to have lots to tell us about what goes on in your beautiful Isle. One thing I am confused about though, I thought the NT insisted that all houses on the Isle are painted white. Did I make that up or are you a rebel?

diamondbigdod from Trondra

Dbd, Yeah there is a clause in our lease stating that the NTS wishes all Fair Isle houses to be white, but from what I understand, a few years back some folks rebelled against said clause & broke out the colours. Ours is half terracotta half blue & now an island landmark, telling guests that if they get lost, get to a high point & you cant miss the house, has came in handy. Mjc. I do art quilts & mixed media pieces, as well as the odd com for traditional quilts, hope this year to get back to entering the uk shows after a 3yr break due to packing/moving/sorting out the studio's. Alix orca whales are a regular, if we are really really lucky, we sometimes can watch pods of them drive the seals into the bay the house looks out upon In the hope that said seals can become orca lunch. And of course, the birds, they kinda grow on you. Angela
