Suggestion re fastening the chicken-wire. Cut a length of fencing wire as long as the netting is high. Staple this down the post (vertically) on top of the chicken-wire using normal fencing staples. In this way the strain on the netting is spread along the length of the wire and not on a few individual strands of chicken-wire. Also makes dismantling much easier as the (big) staples atr easier to pull with fencing pliers - and the netting remains undamaged.

Glad you didnt get much damage. We went out and tied down one of the chicken houses as it was the most likely to disappear into outer space.

don't worry-ok i've never lived in fair isle but have known helish winds in scotland but never up to 190km an hour as we get here a lot-driving etc is a nightmare -i somtimes think i'm driving a b****- crab!!

Hi there, I found you because I was checking out "In striches" it came to me this week as a very good name for a knitter. Other folk, it seems, have had the same brilliant idea. It was very interesting reading your blog. I went right back to the beginning. You reminisce about like minded creative folk that you used to share inspiration with - interesting that, I live in probably the most densely populated part of Great Britain and I have that void too. I am a machine knitter and have been for more years than I care to own, but sadly there is a serious decline in my craft and like minded creative folk are very thin on the ground here. Like you I often have frustrating seaches for materials and inspiration comes mainly these days from my two daughters and from magazines from the US. the British equivalent for me are quite barren, apart from Rowan. Keep on blogging I will read with interes.

Our Dawadderman is indeed a fine example of what neighbours are for, never short of a good idea or the voice of experiance, he is also the man what does A.I ! & we've had need of him in that respect lately, cross your fingers for us that our cow is preggers ! April.. I am of the same opinion & it does indeed sadden me, that to find interesting & inspiring materials & magazines, one must look outwith the uk in favour of the american or austrailian publications (this comes from she who just got the new issue of Quilting arts, cloth paper sissors & quilt arts holiday gifts issue & is now happy as a pig in S**t & full of idea's for a set of winter themed vessels to adorn the fireplace ! ) Carol... Are you sure you havent jumped in our car by mistake ? Island threads, Fantastic to finaly meet you !! Must have been some Orcadians in Cal then mjc. Pomona is an alternative name for the Orkney mainland. Not sure of the origin but I somehow doubt that the roman goddess had anything to do with it. Now had I said "The Pomona" that would be the Finstoon pub.
