Age: 24
Played by: Steven Meo
Where is he now?
During Series 7 he decided to go travelling and is still away, DJing somewhere warm and exotic no doubt.
Owen is Will's son by his failed marriage to Brenda. Brenda took the kids and left when Owen was 7. They moved to Ireland with violent step-dad Eammon but at the age of 14, Owen decided he'd had enough and he ran away back to his real Dad in Bryncoed.
On leaving school he worked in Steve's garage and was a good mechanic. At the end of Series 1, Owen left Bryncoed to take up a DJ-ing residency at a Liverpool club. Although this opportunity was too good to turn down, he felt very guilty about leaving behind his best-friend, Sion, who was recovering from meningitis and too ill to accompany him.
Owen made a success of the Liverpool contract. He landed a couple of regular gigs in the city and created a reputation for himself, resulting in job offers in Cardiff, London and other cities. At this time, a close friend of his in Liverpool declared his love for Owen. Totally in denial of his sexuality, Owen responded by running away, back to the 'safety' of Bryncoed.
On his return to Bryncoed at the beginning of Series 2, Owen tentatively set about repairing the relationship with his father, Will. The two did become closer but neither man was able to openly acknowledge Owen's homosexuality.
When Owen met Joe, the mutual attraction was instant. The sexually-confident Joe eventually made the first move, but it was Owen who wanted to turn their illicit sexual liaisons into a love affair. Joe was not able to make the same emotional commitment, and tried to end the affair to try and be a good father and husband to Dani. The relationship finally ended in Series 3.
Owen struck up a very genuine, close friendship with Ceri's friend Liv. She pushed for a relationship with Owen, unaware that he was gay and Owen was prepared to go along with it hoping that he could be won over by her charms. However, Owen found the relationship smothering and it finally forced him to realise for himself that he was gay.
Out of the closet...
He finally came out to Liv and hurt her badly. Following this he realised he could no longer live a lie and told his father and Vanessa he was gay. By the end of series 3, Owen felt secure in the knowledge of his own sexuality and ready (at least in a modest way) to face the world.
In Series 4, he finally seemed to find a proper boyfriend in the shape of student nurse, Simon. However, the cost of this was his loss of Liv as friend and flatmate - she couldn't live with him unless they were lovers.
In Series 5 Owen dumped his boyfriend and dumped his DJ lifestyle, opting to work with his dad as an electrician. He met his new step-sister Des, and struck up a friendship with her, appreciating her straight-talking manner. Owen took Des in when she rowed with Vanessa and they made an odd, if happy, couple sharing a house. When Joe came back on the scene, Owen found he could be a friend to him and nothing more.
In Series 6, Owen thought he'd found romance at work with customer Jim, but soon realised that Will was right - never mix work with sex. Owen grew ever closer to his dad, supporting him in his running and even entering a fun run. He became more daring after Joe arrived back in Bryncoed, becoming involved in a threesome with Joe and Tanya. He wasn't sure he liked it, but not to worry as Joe seems more than keen to pursue their side of the triangle.
In Series 7, Owen moved in with Joe and was playing Mum to Joe's kids. He organised a 5-aside footie team in a bid to have a more exciting lifestyle - or at least some adult company, but was beginning to have doubts about his role in Joe's life as the new Danni.
