In 1963 Nelson Mandela and eight other leaders of the African National Congress were tried for 221 acts of sabotage against the apartheid state.
They were alleged to have designed to overthrow the apartheid system during the world-famous Rivonia trial.
It was at the start of the trial a year later in April 1964, that Nelson Mandela made this famous passionate speech calling for the end to apartheid.
