This recipe was sent in by Cristina Tarzibachi from Argentina
This is a typical Argentinean dish. We eat it more frequently than the barbecue. Though it sounds Italian, its name comes from a man who had a restaurant called “Napoli” in Buenos Aires and he created this dish.

The finished dish
Ingredients
- 1 kg veal or beef (it can be from any tender part that has not much fat). Ask your butcher to cut it into thin slices.
- 4 eggs
- ½ kg breadcrumbs
- Salt
- Black or white pepper
- Sunflower oil (or any other that you prefer for frying)
- Chopped/pureed tomato sauce (if you can get it, buy a tin especially prepared with onions, black olives, salt, pepper and basil)
- Cheese similar to mozzarella (cut it into slices)
Instructions
- Whisk the eggs in a bowl and add salt and pepper
- Put the breadcrumbs into another bowl
- Cut off all the fat around the edge of the meat
- Sprinkle some salt on each slice of meat
- Dip one slice of meat into the beaten eggs, then take it out and let any excess egg mixture drip back in to the bowl
- Then put the meat into the bowl of breadcrumbs and cover with breadcrumbs
- Repeat with all the slices of meat
- Then heat some oil in a frying pan. When it is hot put in the slices of “breaded meat” to fry. Fry on both sides
- Meanwhile, heat the oven for about 10 minutes at maximum heat. Then, put all the “milanesas” on a baking sheet
- Put some tomato sauce on the top of each of them and then add a slice of cheese
- Take the baking sheet out of the oven as soon as the cheese melts
This dish can be accompanied with French fries, salad, mashed potatoes or you can eat them in a sandwich.

Dear Cris! I know you are a wonderful cook. I prepared Milanesas by your recipe on Sunday. Really delicious. My family liked it so much. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. It seems that milanesas are popular all over the world. We do this meat dish in Slovakia (called reze) and in Hungary (called rintott szelet) as well with the difference as Tereza from the CZ mentioned: each slice is dipped in flour first, then into beaten eggs and then in breadcrumbs.

We do this in the Czech Republic as well, with one difference, before dipping the meat into the egg, we dip it into a plain flour first :) We call it Rizek and like it very much, especially for Christmas as an alternate to a fried carp.
