Risk assessments
According to the Health and Safety Executive, there were an estimated 611,000 workers in 2014/15 who had a non-fatalNot resulting in death. injury at work.
Whilst rates are generally following a downward trend, this number resulted in an estimated 4.1 million working days lost.
However, there are other reasons why health and safety is so important. If an organisation is seen as neglectful, it could face legal proceedings and a large fine, and in some cases a prison sentence. The reputation of the organisation can also be severely damaged.
The Health and Safety Executive requires organisations to carry out risk assessments.
Risk assessments cover all aspects of the organisation, including any activities that are undertaken, eg a school must carry out a risk assessment before they organise a trip.
