Description
A new business starts up, helped by a small business advisor. Two mums start Bumpus, producing portable cushions for attaching to supermarket trolleys to protect babies鈥 heads when sitting in the hard metal seats. Includes detail on types of business organisation; the role of a business advisor; market research and protection of idea/product/name.
Classroom Ideas
Students could list all the aspects of starting and running a business that they spot, e.g business structure, market research. Compare the different types of business organisation mentioned, sole trader, partnership, limited company. Give students a list of different businesses or scenarios and have them decide what type of organisation would suit it best and why. As a discussion point: if these two entrepreneurs were to take their business to the Dragons鈥 Den, asking for 拢75,000, what might the Dragons say and what questions would they ask?
