Pipe up...
Ìý
Thanks for a good week of suggestions. It's been great to hear from so many of you, especially when folk have got so much on at this time of year. If you are not attending carol concerts, going to office parties, shopping or out just joining in the festivities then I hope you can tune in next week and contribute to our week of themes.
Talking of carol concerts, we will be staging the Get It On carol concert on Wednesday night. Members of the Glasgow Chamber Choir will be joining me in the studio and will be standing by to deliver your favourite Christmas song on request. It's the show where you choose the carols!
On Monday we have reached '11 pipers piping' and our theme will be instruments you can blow. Brass, woodwind and reed will all be accepted and I do hope we get some actual pipers on the show.
Have a great weekend and hope it doesn't get too hectic for you.

Kassidy were brilliant - and so was Barrowlands. What is it about the place? Different bands, different audiences yet it's reputation totally deserved for an atmosphere second to none. Does the whole thing feed off itself? ie you expect excitement - and so on.
But how great is it when one of the band says it was happiest night of his life in the band? And you were there and you feel like you helped to make it an amazing night.

Well, you're quite right - I've petitioned for this particular version of Say Hello - Wave Goodbye for what feels like years now - it has the most magnificent oboe solo about two thirds of the way through it's 8:00 minute time slot - but it's absolutely worth it.
After the David Grey fiasco, our hero promised that he would play this version but has steadfastly ignored all subsequent reminding - so uncharacteristically, I'd kind of given up....and my interest was waning, but you've just given me a wake up call..
It's about time this great wrong was put right, Bryan.
Say Hello, Wave Good-bye- Soft Cell from the Soft Cell/Marc Almond album 'Memorabilia' the track is also known on that album as 'the long goodbye'
What more excuse do you need to play all eight magnificent minutes? This so much better than the version previously played by GIO that it will be ' a revelation for de nation'.
The only doubt in my mind is that the playing is so perfect I have wondered to myself - is that really an oboe? Could it be a Clarinet? An electric Oboe?
No matter, and it's hardly appropriate since all Marc Almond's records have an undercurrent of languid seediness and glamour about them (a bit like Steely Dan) but Smiffy and myself finally got engaged the other week, so that might be worth an 8 minute blast.
Certainly, it was as unpredictable as Bryan playing the 8:00 minute Say Hello Wave Goodbye.
Go on, stranger things have happened!

And, on the subject of 'stranger things have happened' what was really weird was that it turned out that my ex wife got engaged the same night.
Now the kids are really confused.
My eldest is still trying to work out the odds of a couple splitting up and fifteen years later getting engaged to their new partner on the same night, each unaware of the others plans.
