Postcards From The Hedge

Chris Evans | 09:48 UK time, Monday, 28 February 2011

Well actually, there weren't any. Lynn Travel was in Welsh Wales for most of last week attending to the planting of a mixed hedge. And many metres too, it transpires.

We missed her, but she was too focused on her root balls. And Ken away at the same time?

Was he her man ? Was Ken the man Lynn - got it in ? It's happened before, once for a whole year.

Well, no it hasn't really - not to my knowledge anyway, I'm just mischieving. By the way I had a question for Ken. I asked him it at 9.30 today. Did you hear it ?

Anyways bye bye Feb 2011, bring on Olympic Feb.

3.27 a.m. In The New Kitchen Chair

Chris Evans | 06:31 UK time, Thursday, 24 February 2011

I'm sitting in our new kitchen chair. It's not new to our lives but it's new to our kitchen. Tash has located it in the perfect position - right in the middle, underneath the tea towel holder. I love it, this is where it wants to be.

I'm up a whole hour earlier than I need to be by the way, the alarm next door was shrieking so I thought I'd better have a nosey. After some thorough investigation, mostly by Beth our German Shepherd - all seems to be well, but boy can I can feel that extra hour. I have blurred vision which doesn't want to go away, and my head actually feels like it's been in a mangle. Also, I've never been one for the shakes but I can feel a little something right now. I may be on the verge.

So, drama over, do I go back to bed or do I have a coffee, stay up and see if the shakes wanna dance a little ?

Just call me Shakey.

When You Thought You'd Blogged But You Hadn't.

Chris Evans | 16:01 UK time, Wednesday, 23 February 2011

Honestly, I was convinced I had and then I go to lay my head down for a quick five minutes this afternoon, and realise I have done everything - but the blog. Of course when I say everything, I mean only my everything, not everyone else's everything.

My everything consisted today of quite a lot actually, including the delivery of another new-old car. I love new-old cars. In fact I'm loving them more every day. I almost felt that Christmas Eve tingle today about this latest addition.

Maybe that's why I forgot the blog.

Please come out Mr Sunshine so I can take her for a drive.

Happy Christmas for February 2011 you lot.

The Good Thing About A Day As Grey As Today Is. . .

Chris Evans | 10:51 UK time, Tuesday, 22 February 2011

It makes indoors seems so much cosier.

I have just arrived home, given the dogggie a hug, made a fresh cup of coffee and have Zoe and Radio 2 glowing in the corner.

Grey days are fine if you take them for what they are, a chance to realise how much you love being home.

Always Time For Eric

Chris Evans | 09:49 UK time, Monday, 21 February 2011

This morning, as the news coming in from around the world was not good, more than a little worrying to be honest, up pops Eric Clapton just after nine o'clock with Layla, to make things a little bit better

If we haven't got time, or at least can't "make" time for EC then we really are in a pickle. And so she came to pass, Layla in all her glory and splendour, all seven minutes and eight seconds of her. And for Layla we must give thanks, along with whomever it was that dreamt up this gift called music.

We've said it before - guitars speak louder than guns.

Planting Time

Chris Evans | 10:47 UK time, Friday, 18 February 2011

So, Robert Plant this morning on the radio. He was unsurprisingly excellent. Bloomin' intelligent too. Excellent diction, I wasn't quite expecting that, a delightful crispness to his words. Yes, very impressed all round. Another good day at the office had by all.

Filming for Blue Peter post show, I'm on on Tuesday, although we're filming on Monday. I always presumed Blue Peter was live. Is it the cuts?

Talking of cuts - barbers appointment. Gotta go. Have a great weekend. Speak to you Monday.

Xxx.

Foggy Bloggy

Chris Evans | 10:36 UK time, Thursday, 17 February 2011

Foggy around Berkshire today, which got me to wondering - do pigeons and all other birds (for that matter) get grounded by the fog like planes do? You know - for take off and landing.

If they can't see the windowsill, how can they put down there? I just saw a pigeon who looked like he/she was flying below some low cloud on purpose, skimming deftly under the lower layers. Maybe they have their own PAA (pigeon aviation authority) regulations and guidelines.

Human Planet tonight. Don't miss it. Tonight's episode features a culture that get their meat by stealing it from hungry lions. I have an idea how they feel, after trying to nick a bit of my mate Morg's curry last night. He's Welsh and 6'7". He takes his food intake very seriously, very seriously indeed.

Need to get some sleep this morning.

Chris Evans | 13:00 UK time, Wednesday, 16 February 2011

Plan was two hours from 10.30 to 12.30. It's now 11.44 and not one wink has been had.

If I get to sleep for tent to twelve, that gives me a whopping 40 minutes.

But hey, it's forty minutes I may well need at some time in the future.

And where does sleep go if it isn't used ?

I'll leave you with that.

Early Morning - Very Late Night.

Chris Evans | 05:30 UK time, Tuesday, 15 February 2011

Not last night, tonight. I am taking my wife to The Brits, you see.

She's never been before and I guarantee, she'll never want to go again.

But, seeing as I'm in a postion to do so, it's only right I let her find out for herself.

The M25's Back On A Go Slow.

Chris Evans | 21:52 UK time, Monday, 14 February 2011

It's everyone's favourite speed restriction - the average speed trap. The genius invention that means you have to stay slow for the duration - not just the few yards before the camera. I wonder who invented this 21st Century wonder of law enforcement.

Was it a Brit, or did we buy it in from another country as if it were a game show?

I would today also like to give a few blog inches to junction 21 on the M25, the junction swiftly followed by junction 21A. If I were junction 21, I would presume I was naturally 21A and any second additional junction 21 should at least be a B. Surely we are all A's to start off with don't you think ?

Off to bath The Special One and have another ponder on similar big life questions.

Noah's Birthday Part ll

Chris Evans | 12:28 UK time, Thursday, 10 February 2011

Lunch had. Jelly and ice cream and lots of it, plus pizza - well now and again isn't gonna do any harm is it ? For the adults I mean, not for The Special One.

Indeed not, Noah had his usual steamed fish and green beans and rice, washed down with a small glass of carrot and mint smoothie. There was cake for everyone - carrot - and two candles.

Happy with the candle bill this year, obviously this will become more of a budgetary worry as my son's age progresses. Ahhh, he's such a smasher and if this rain carries on like it is today - we may need him to wheel out that secret ark that I know he's hiding somewhere.

Keep having a great day.

Two Blogs In One Day.

Chris Evans | 06:28 UK time, Thursday, 10 February 2011

Forgive me disciples of the blog. Tis I, Evans The Scribe here. I will blog twice today to make up for my absence yesterday.

Today is Noah's second birthday. He was uncharacteristically quiet for the preceding twenty four hours, which I have since put down to the fact that he is concerned about his age. You see, it's tough for a one year old because when they are two, they have doubled their age.

This is the heftiest ageing any of us experience - a whole doubling of one's years on the planet, something that never happens again. Sure we get older, but only by two percent when we reach fifty for example.

Today Noah feels the weight of a whole hundred percent.

Anyway, I think he may be over it by the time I ge home today. Jelly and ice cream are an en excellent diversion when it comes to fretting about most anything.

Have a lovely day everyone.

What A Day!

Chris Evans | 12:12 UK time, Tuesday, 8 February 2011

Such a beautiful, wondrous day. Same as yesterday in length and similar time of year -but no wind, no cloud, just celestial blue sky and bright glorious, almost spring sunshine.

If this isn't proof that sunshine is the superfood to the soul, nothing is. I'm at the gym, yet to embark upon my workout, but I'm still in a fantastic mood. I may even celebrate afterwards with a fruit smoothie. No excuses to be a rubbish human being today.

Have a great one.

And Now Please Welcome - My Old Boss.

Chris Evans | 11:50 UK time, Friday, 4 February 2011

Geldof on The One Show sofa tonight. Bob used to own the company that produced The Big Breakfast. He was my boss for close to three years. He is a complete force of nature -a man like no other. Supremely confident on the outside, though I very much suspect not so on the inside.

Perhaps that would be a good question to ask him.

It's important to ask Bob the right question first, as you probably won't get a word in after that. Tune in, ´óÏó´«Ã½1 7 p.m. to see what happens.

France for me tomorrow. Bon weekend toute le monde. A bientot.

Rise And Shine - Guest Starring Mrs. E.

Chris Evans | 12:32 UK time, Thursday, 3 February 2011

So Tash, my beautiful, dusky, half Armenian, don't mess, wife got up with me today to come accompany me on my journey to London, as she had to be at the hospital (nothing serious at all) for half seven this morning.

Little did she realise, I soon discovered, that I am a 'straight in the shower, and then in the car three minutes later' kinda guy. Twenty five minutes later, and we just about managed to get on our way. She'd never make a breakfast DJ, but then again I'd never make a Tash.

With wifey safely installed where she needs to be, I went off to my own Docs for me hair treatment. A ten year course starts today? There will be growth again on this once barren land. The scientists have assured me - if not for a good few months yet !

The Observer

Chris Evans | 10:59 UK time, Wednesday, 2 February 2011

Man at show today - observing. I know why, but am not at liberty to say. Nice man though, and well respected too. I think he liked what he saw, although you never can tell.

As well as being observed, also had a meeting with my boss after the show. I still get nervous at the prospect of coming into contact with authority. Genuinely, I always presume I am going to be told off. Discretion precludes me from 'fessing up to the details of this morning's meeting, but it's over now, and as I'm still expected in to work tomorrow morning, I must be doing something ok - for the time being at least.

Good luck with your lot, you lot.

More of mine from 6.30 a.m. Thursday.

The Gardening Starts Today.

Chris Evans | 10:41 UK time, Tuesday, 1 February 2011

Tried the gym yesterday after the Christmas/holiday lay off and to be frank it just didn't do it for me. To be honest I'm not sure it's the right weather to lose fat at the moment. In fact, I think we all actually need a bit as it's so damn cold out there.

I do however want to start moving again, and so it's thermals on and it's out in the garden for me for the next few weeks. We have so much that needs doing around our pile and I love the idea of being able to eat what I want for lunch after grafting for a few hours every morning.

If you see a bright red nose glowing around the Berkshire area - it's probably mine. See you on t'radio.
