Moving back to New Zealand
Elizabeth McNally was born in Aukland, New Zealand but her family moved to the UK when she was young. Elizabeth always had a hankering for her homeland but, when she returned as an adult, she discovered it was impossible to reclaim.
Thank you for this moving story. You are a TCK - third culture Kid! This is a typical experience of someone moving as a child between 2 cultures - never able to recreate the experience of 'home' again. Thank you
Complain about this postI was very interested to hear the comments of Elizabeth Mcnally about trying to rediscover her idyllic childhood home in New Zealand.
3 of my children were born in new Zealand and the older 2 like Elizabeth found it hard to settle
on our return to the UK.
One of my daughters is flying over now to Auckland with her partner and 14 month old baby
my first grandchild, they have left parents siblings and good friends to recapture the dream.
I am waiting patiently for them to realise that it is a very long way away from family and home.
Complain about this postTelling them my experience of homesickness
was not enough to make them stay,it has to be experienced.
Although we all wish them well they are on their own now and it takes a long time to find good friends wherever you live.
Thank you for your comments on the shoe ,it was reassuring that someone else feels the same way.
