Name | Livio Medeiros |
Pitching | Pão de Queijo |
Investment Required | £50,000 |
Equity Offered | 10% |
Brief Description | Cheesy dough balls for baking made from cassava flour. An everyday product for everyone including coeliacs |
The dough balls get a mixed reaction from the Dragons. Julie Meyer seems to like them but Shaf Rasul is visibly unimpressed. With the pitch over it's time for the baker to convince the Dragons his business proposition isn't half-baked.
Julie announces she thought they were delicious and wants to know what they are made of. A delighted Livio confirms they are gluten free as they don’t use wheat and reels off his list of ingredients. The entrepreneur goes on to explain they are usually eaten for breakfast in Brazil but can also serve as canapés and eaten anytime of the day.
Worried that the business has been trading at a loss for the past two years Julie wants to know what his plans are to turn his business around.
Liveo confirms the company is growing significantly but before he has time to continue he is cut short by Shaf Rasul who wants confirmation about what investment he is looking for.
Both Dragons are surprised by the hefty amount of cash he is after. Julie is quick to point out his business is still in its early stages, that it is niche, and is still trading at a loss. The American Dragon wants to know what he will do if he doesn’t get the money. A confident Livio replies he’s pretty sure he will get the money.
Straight away Julie confesses there is no way she could invest £50,000 for 10% of such a niche and currently loss making concern. For those reasons she’s out.
An unimpressed Shaf doesn’t sweeten his words declaring his dough ball tasted like sawdust. The Dragon declares he finds Livios's confidence "unbelievable" and calls the entrepreneur "extremely naïve". It’s not a deal for Shaf Rasul and declares himself out.
It's been swift and brutal - in record time Livio has been expelled from the Den empty handed.

Looks like a good product and you're selling it already so you know there is a demand.
You should provide some justification for your valuation, half a million is a lot of money. It looks like your factory is pretty small and doesn't have a big output so I hope you're making a lot of profit on each product.
Wheat-free is a good selling point, I wish you luck gaining the investment your need to scale up your operation.
