Gay uncle

Whilst spending a year doing a placement in an East German town called Guben, I was in a textile factory. One day I was trying to learn a few German proverbs and test them out in the laboratory. One of the proverbs was: Wenn mein Onkel keinen Bart hätte, wäre er meine Tante. Literally translated this means: If my uncle didn't have a moustache, he'd be my auntie, in the sense of: If the beggar had a horse, he'd ride out of town. Unfortunately I didn't say Tante, but Tunte, which is slang for a homosexual instead!

Tunte isn't only a cross-dressing slang but merely a taboo word for an homosexual or at least someone who behaves and talks like the homosexual sterotype (so someone can be tuntig)

And Tucke has the same meaning as Tunte so beware of it.

I'm German myself. When I was little, I thought Tunte is a funny way of saying Tante, aunt. So I ended up calling my aunt Tunte a few times, until someone took me aside and explained ...

Yeah, Tunte is more for a camp guy, someone who's queeny.

Great! However, Bart is beard and Schnurbart is moustache.

Yes and no. Tunte really means queen as in cross-dressing.
