Do you feel old?

Whilst on vacation in Mexico with a friend and her family, her father became slightly ill. One day, we stopped for dinner and I sat next to him. I practiced what I wanted to say nearly a half dozen times in my head and finally asked: ¿Señor, se siente mayor o peor? After a hearty round of laughter from the table, my friend's sister leaned over and said 'You asked him if he felt older or worse'.

Editor's note: The word for better mejor is quite similar to the word Tina used - it's just a case of being careful with the pronunciation. Pronounce mejor (better) as 'may-hor', as opposed to 'ma-yor' for mayor (older).

We live in a mountain town and a new English guy moved in. Every day he would take his three kids to school and try to talk to the other kids. His first question always was ¿Cuantos anos tienes? With adults you can usually get away with errors like this, but with kids! Two years later and they still haven't let him forget it!
