For the first time, Sinn Féin has overtaken the SDLP in John Hume’s heartland, says the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Gerry Bradley. Elisha McCallion wiped the floor with the opposition, exceeding the quota by almost 2,000 votes.Â
Then, the former hunger striker and IRA man Raymond McCartney bagged the party’s second seat  The SDLP have always managed to defend Foyle as if they owned it, the defences now appear to have been breached.
Newry and Armagh
The DUP's Sammy Wilson says border unionists will feel "even more isolated" after Danny Kennedy of the UUP lost his seat.Â
East Londonderry
Colum Eastwood says he stands by the SDLP's decision to bring back John Dallat in the fight for a seat in the north west.
"We stood by the party rules and tried to get the best candidate on the ticket. I think we did get the best candidate on the ticket and he's someone who has contributed massively to the peace process and the assembly over the years," Mr Eastwood added.
