Meet The Archers’ new editor, Huw Kennair-Jones
Huw Kennair-Jones has been announced as the new editor of the world’s longest running soap, The Archers.
Huw has a strong background in creating compelling stories and working on high quality drama productions, with experience in both production and commissioning.
Most recently he’s been producing Medici: Masters of Florence for Big Light Productions, starring Dustin Hoffman and Richard Madden, and New Tricks for Headstrong Pictures, where he also series produced Waterloo Road.
Between 2008 and 2014, Kennair-Jones worked for Sky Entertainment as a commissioning editor at Sky Drama, where he was also executive producer on programmes including Hit and Miss, Strike Back, Mad Dogs, Thorne, Terry Pratchett's Going Postal and Moonfleet.
He previously worked as a commissioning executive for Sky 1, a story producer for EastEnders, a series producer for Dream Team and a producer for Holby City.
Huw Kennair-Jones said: "Having started listening to The Archers on Sunday mornings as a child while my mother did the ironing, I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the team in Birmingham at such an exciting time in the show’s history and building on the brilliant work Sean O’Connor has done during his tenure. The Archers occupies a unique place in the nation’s heart and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to be part of this iconic programme’s future.”
Gwyneth Williams, Controller Radio 4 & Radio 4 Extra said: “As ever The Archers is part of our national conversation. And we can be sure that with our talented and experienced new editor, Huw Kennair-Jones, Ambridge will continue to be in safe hands. I am delighted to welcome Huw to Radio 4 and I very much look forward to working with him.”
Huw joins the team following the departure of Sean O’Connor, who swapped the countryside surroundings of Ambridge and moved to EastEnders earlier on this year. Sean continued to oversee the Helen and Rob storyline for The Archers, with his final episode broadcast on Sunday night as Helen’s verdict was delivered in Borchester Crown Court.
